New Year’s Resolutions in Radical Independence
December 26th 2010 14:14
Before any Balls can drop or panic is brought into the conversation for 2011; the people of the World must look back on the year that was 2010 and the end of a decade shaped by the power of technology and its ability to bring the people of the World together.
For every technological advancement, ability to access information and new ways of communicating we are still fighting the same age old battles that lead the people of the world down the wrong path.
Wars between ourselves by way of race, nationality, gender, sexual orientation, social status, religion and creed filled the news headlines in 2010 while manmade and natural disasters had the ability to bring people together.
Together for days, weeks and months before chasing the story of the week that brought us closer to short term solutions as opposed to asking the tough questions.
Tough questions about the long term impact of Oil Disasters in parts of the world that aren’t considered “remote” and the impact they will have on industries and regions 10, 15 and 20 years down the road.
Tough questions about continued defense of the “definition” of marriage and whether or not we’ve strayed so far from its origins rooted in religion by making it a legal partnership that can be created in an Elvis Temple and destroyed through a drive through divorce center.
Tough questions about the future of the internet and what measures agencies of the government should take to protect consumers, citizens and national security.
Tough questions about the deeper meaning behind the words change, compromise, and civility that have been twisted and turned by Spin Doctors for the purposes of controlling the entire conversation.
The conversation that should begin with fixing a broken Education System, Ensuring the safety of the World’s water and food supply, passing Campaign Finance Reform, creating an open dialogue about Environmental Reform and having an open debate about equal rights for all citizens have been pushed to the dark corners for use in election year attacks, “gotcha” moments and snuck onto the fine print of Congressional legislation to cause public uproar.
Public uproar that has been the cause of most misunderstandings in a modern age of “over information” that has chosen to rely on extremes rather than conversation from the middle in analysis of all the issues.
Issues that have two sides and many conclusions from the double-speak of representatives that choose to embrace what they feel is the “greater good” for their political party leaders instead of standing up for what’s right.
In this New Year of Radical Independence the focus will remain on breaking down the walls that separate us as individuals but we will be doing this closer to the core of the issue.
The core that begins with us as individuals and all the things that bring fear, anxiety and social panic into our hearts.
In conversations about politics it’s become too easy for citizens to become disaffected from the standpoint of politicians ultimately making decisions in consideration of interests from the masses as opposed to the individual voice of the citizen.
As much as the media has tried to convince the public that social networking would change the way we feel disaffected the results have become obvious.
The way social networking has been used from the left, right and the middle has not changed the way the game has been played but only the perception.
The perception of the public supporting the left or the right by fan page numbers rather than the things that are being said through the last open forum on the Planet.
It’s easy to proclaim all the things the internet “should be” but it is up to the people to leave their glass houses in search of the broader conversation.
The conversation about the things that aren’t being done and never will be done as long as we squander our opportunities to make a difference in favor of not being a part of the system, supporting the same failed ways of thinking or pretending that there isn’t a problem.
There are some major problems happening around the World right now with a good majority of them happening in the United States of America.
The system will never be perfect but it will never work for the people unless they are willing to do their part of the hard work to improve it.
In the year 2011 the commitment to bridging the gap, opening up discussion on issues missed by media sources and moving the conversation forward will all remain the same.
It is my sincere hope that each and every one of you will continue to walk with me on this journey towards Radical Independence to promote conversation for open minds across the globe.
Without conversation the change that needs to happen will never have a chance to occur…
