Hot Tub Time Machine: A Back to the Future Look at the Comedy Genre Past, Present and Future

In the history of film there has never been a more celebrated or revered genre than that of Comedic Films.
A genre that can immediately have a viewer evoke the words instant classic while the movie fanatic next to him or her can say it was a bore or below their level of intelligence.
There can never be an immediate consensus on whether a movie is funny or not just as much as there can never be one film that ever reigns supreme as the greatest comedic classic of all time.
Appreciation of a work of comedy will always be something left to the taste of the viewer but something can be said for the path of success certain films have taken to make their marks in move history.
Marks that cause divisions within the storied history of the comedic genre with legendary actors the likes of Billy Crystal who took the romantic comedy genre to the next level or Steve Martin who blazed a trail for future comedic performances by Vince Vaughn and Will Ferrell with his movie classic The Jerk.
The greatness of each and every one of these actors has been left up for debate by the tastes of the audience who viewed these films but they will forever be enshrined in movie history.
A history that continues to evolve with films by the Farrelly Brothers, who in the 90’s created a film featuring Ben Stiller’s Breakout Comedic Performance in There’s Something About Mary and what was to follow in the 00’s with the series of movie flicks created by Judd Apatow with Steve Carrell in the 40 Year Old Virgin and the Breakout success of the American Pie Films which rewarded us with the movie legend Stiffler.
This trip down the aisle of movie history brings us one step closer to today’s conversation about Fridays Nationwide release of Hot Tub Time Machine which is a culmination of movie history and a blend of movie classics from outside of the genre.
Movie classics that took us Back to the Future in a time traveling Delorean or struck fear into our hearts with the thought of Arnold Schwarzenegger coming to the present to change the future.
I’m sure you’ve all seen the sleek media campaign that most likely evoked thoughts of the movie Wild Hogs with a bunch of middle aged men going back in time to sew up wild oats in a party crazed adventure but this movie was much more of that.
Think more along the lines of Wild Hogs meets American Pie meets Back to The Future meets The Terminator and your somewhere close to the experience you will get from watching this movie.
An experience that was somewhere close to the time I had the privilege of getting into a sneak preview of There’s Something About Mary when I left the Theatre with tears of laughter streaming down my face.
For those who enjoyed the gross out comedy era of the 90’s and 00’s with a background story we can all relate to; this flick was more than worth the price of admission.
The price of admission that will take those of us who can remember Jerry Curls, Bright Colors and the sounds of Glam Rock back to an era some of us would rather forget.
In the conversation of whether this movie is worth the money Hot Tub Time Machine will meet and exceed the expectations of the movie fanatic looking for a good weekend comedy with a little bit of flavor of classics from the past and a mix of comedy from the present.
