Politics and Culture - American Profiles In Radical Independence

“I do not want my house to be walled in on all sides and my windows to be stuffed. I want the cultures of all the lands to be blown about my house as freely as possible. But I refuse to be blown off my feet by any.” ~ Mahatma Gandhi

From Left Field: A Post Bin Laden World

May 4th 2011 13:07
After a decade of uncertainty from the events of 9-11 in Washington D.C., Pennsylvania and New York City and the world not having the man blamed for causing so much death and destruction in the grips of what some would consider justice; each and every world citizen was greeted to the news of Osama Bin Laden’s capture and death in the dawn hours of May 2, 2011.

News that was greeted with instant celebration in the United States of America and chants of U-S-A in a demonstration of patriotism, unity and national pride to celebrate a feeling of closure to the events that took away the mask of safety and comfort Americans felt on their home soil before September 11, 2001.

In the hours after the news that rocked the world American citizens were forced to form their own collective opinions about what this news really meant and to form a narrative of how this would affect the future of a post 9-11 world.

A future that is still filled with un-welcome dangers from terrorist networks with no structured leadership and uncertainty on the home front with a sputtering economy…

While the prospect of a post Osama Bin Laden world may be the stuff that movie scripts require to send audiences home happy we must also understand that this is not the ending of an era.

An era that has been marked with the mistakes that lead to the buildup of fundamentalist Islamic Networks in the Middle East and a blind eye that created the possibility for the danger that came home to American shores.

The death of Bin Laden is merely a symbol to bring comfort in the fact that the American Intelligence networks are finally catching up to the demands of a fast paced world and should also serve as a sense of pride in each and every American citizen for the members of the Armed Forces who did the job of protecting the world from the future acts of mad men.

Before crawling back into our holes of division with skirmishes over deciding who should reap the benefits of Presidential Poll points and what political leaders of yesteryear should be left out of the conversation in being part of a decade long effort to catch the most wanted man in the world we should remember this.

The reason why Osama Bin Laden is not planning any attacks on targets across the globe is because of a joint effort by military and government leaders of the United States of America and allies in other nations.

The place where we get our minds twisted is when the nitpicking takes the place of the story that was setup to serve as a celebration for the things that can happen when we drop our banners, divisions and bravado for the greater good.

The greater good that is about more than the celebration of the death of Usama Bin Laden but digs into the very heart of the reasons the world is safer place thanks to service members of the United States Military, Intelligence Agencies and Government Officials making the tough decisions in service the American people and the United States Constitution.
