“Fourth of July Tribute”
July 4th 2010 12:26
The fourth day in the month of July will always have a special place in my heart.
A special place beyond the day off work, fireworks or the ability of Americans from every corner of the nation to come together in a day of celebration.
What the fourth means to me is a day of reflection on how words from the minds of men from different walks of life gave birth to an idea.
An idea of a nation where every man, woman and child is born on the same playing field no matter their race, religious beliefs, gender or economic status.
It was this idea born from the embers of rebellion that encouraged these men to write them down in broad terms that would stand the test of time.
234 years have passed since the founding fathers declared independence from foreign rule and the United States of America is still evolving.
Evolving from a past where we may not have always gotten it right but have maintained the mechanisms to correct wrongs.
While not every wrong has been corrected and at times it seems that the freedoms our founding fathers bestowed upon us may be slipping away…
A constant theme in American history is balance.
The ability for the American people to continue to fight against the status quo whenever a wrong is put in place and a system that is designed to always work itself out.
On this day of Independence it is the Soldier, Sailor, Airman, Marine and the other members of the Armed Forces who put their lives on the line against all enemies both foreign and domestic that I pay tribute to.
It is the Fireman, Police Officer, School Teacher, Elected Official, Small Business Owner, Corporate CEO, Waitress, Blue Collar Worker, White Collar Worker and every other hardworking American who plays a role in the society that stands as the pillar of freedom across the globe that I pay tribute to.
We are all a part of the story that is America no matter our age, religion, socio economic background, political affiliation, race, gender or sexual orientation.
On this day we all stand together as Americans in celebration of our history and the bright future that stands before us so long as we continue the tradition of living up the vision of forefathers in the spirit of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness for all citizens of the United States of America.
