Thinking We Have All the Answers
August 28th 2011 13:00
Of all the feelings human beings are capable of possessing none are more dangerous than the feeling of accomplishment.
The belief that modern society has a complete understanding of the reasons why so much hate, strife and greed still exists in the world; has created more turmoil and suffering in the modern age than in any time that has come before.
While the brutality, ugliness and blatant disregard for respect to the rights each and every human being is entitled to upon birth may have been the downfall of earlier generations; it is the belief that we have advanced past these things that is the albatross around the neck of the modern world.
An albatross that is not the brick wall in front of our faces but is the mental block that exists in the back of our minds.
A mental block that tells us that the world is a perfect place with small flaws that keep modern society from being a utopia as opposed to the massive number of systemic flaws that have been created in dark corners over a long period of time.
Systemic flaws that have diverted us from the utopian ideals of the forefathers of the United States of America that created a society for the people of their generation and all the generations that would follow their lead.
Every man and woman elected to public office in the United States of America begins their term of service by taking an oath to serve the people of their county, city, district, state and country along with the Constitution of the United States of America.
It is this oath that is meant to be a binding contract between the people of the United States of America and the select few that are chosen by the people to serve the citizens of the United States of America.
While this ideal is understood by the majority of citizens it is also an ideal that is regularly thrown under the bus in favor of the extreme elements that exist in a modern society of convenience.
A modern society of convenience that has fallen into the false belief that society has reached a point of comfortability that gives the select few the right to believe they can service the needs of the majority powers that be instead of considering the needs of all the people.
With a consistently shifting power structure in all three branches of government in the United States of America; this dangerous belief has been the cause of gridlock, strife and the passage of bad public policy through majority vote from the left and right political power structure.
Majority votes that have stripped away the most basic Constitutional Rights of American citizens for the purpose of greed, panic and what some feel is the right to pursue partisan agendas.
No longer, are we a society that holds the documents that founded this nation above any turmoil that may exist in modern conversation; but we have become a society addicted to taking care of things in the present with reckless disregard for the damage it will cause in the future.
While the economic crisis may be the most glaring example of the depths we have fallen to as a society it is only the tip of the iceberg in the conversation about the problems that exist in modern society and the problems that are to come.
Problems stemming from decisions made by men and women elected to serve the people of the United States of America that had very little to do with the will of their constituents and had more to do with the outside forces that helped elect them into office.
Outside forces that exist for the sole purpose of pushing through the needs of faceless corporations that have been given more influence over public policy than the voter that casts their ballot the Tuesday after the first Monday every November.
The sad part about this situation has very little to do with the damage George W. Bush, William Jefferson Clinton or President Obama has done to move the United States of America away from the prosperous path we were once on and has everything to do with each and every elected officials lack of urgency to understand the damage being done to a once strong infrastructure.
An infrastructure that was once strong because of the purity of a system that worked because it honored the Constitution by being by and for the people of the United States of America.
The system that exists in modern America has become representative of the turmoil that has taken over the globe.
Turmoil that is ruled by greed, confusion and a lack of concern for where everything is headed if the train is not put back on the tracks…
It’s become far too easy for us to fall into the comfortable belief that because we have money in the bank, food in our bellies, a roof over our heads and political parties willing to defend the select rights we hold dear to our hearts that no matter how bad things get it will always turn out well in the end.
It’s the simple assumptions that lead us to believe we have all the answers needed to exist in the modern world and anything that exists outside of this belief set is an enemy looking to pop our bubble.
When it comes down to it, the only people on this planet capable of stripping away the rights of American citizens are American citizens themselves.
When we set out in celebration of the suppression of rights of other citizens it only opens Pandora’s Box a little wider each and every day to give someone else the right to strip away another set of rights because they feel it is for the greater good of society.
It’s the assumption that our food supply is safe because our President eats hamburgers, the shielded correlation between the worldwide pandemic of cancer and genetically modified foods and the fact that we are able to live our lives at a comfortable distance away from the atrocities happening on farms across the nation that is giving public officials the belief that they have the right to strip away American Citizens right to have faith in safety of the food we feed our children.
It’s the assumption that leaving the banking industry, corporations that feed the nation and energy companies unregulated will give the United States of America energy independence, will end hunger and will spur economic growth that is stifling our ability to find real solutions to the issues responsible for securing our future.
The longer we choose to hide from the truth in favor of continuing the wars against one another in the name of politics, religion, race, gender and sexual orientation the further we will continue to sink into the bottomless pit we’re already stuck in as a world society.
We cannot get the jobless back to work again, get the new class of homeless back into homes nor can we move forward as a nation unless we are able to come together as one nation of citizens and a world society.
The problems we are facing are happening because political leadership felt it was OK to do things by a set of rules they created for themselves.
In the end there is only one set of rules and no matter how much you change the benchmarks they will always eventually move back to zero.
The time has come for the people to begin taking back the game by forcing their representatives to listen to their will.
The will that isn’t about any specific religion, political ideal or a select set of rights but is about the right of ALL the citizens of the United States of America to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
Until we CHOOSE to do this as a society and not in our select groups we will continue to spiral downward until we are forced to do it by starting again from NOTHING.

Political Swat
It is unfortunate that we the electorate have allowed our representatives to strip us of some of our basic Rights.
Greed, Money and Power can and does change ideals.
My Best to you.

Oldies but Goodies From Campaign 08
You are absolutely right about more people in the electorate needing a wake up call to understand what we have at stake beyond what the "political powers that be" want us to be paranoid of.
I also share the hope that this topic will spark a conversation among the populous because it may already be too late to live up to the intentions our Forefathers had for us as a nation.
