Politics and Culture - American Profiles In Radical Independence

“I do not want my house to be walled in on all sides and my windows to be stuffed. I want the cultures of all the lands to be blown about my house as freely as possible. But I refuse to be blown off my feet by any.” ~ Mahatma Gandhi

True Stories of Knowledge, Awareness and Kindness of the Human Spirit Vol. II

June 26th 2009 08:32
How far you go in life depends on your being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving and tolerant of the weak and strong. Because someday in life you will have been all of these.

~ George Washington Carver

In today’s conversation of True Stories I want to talk about the children...

The one group of people in the world who should be free from the harsh realities of life is suffering by the hundreds of millions from the things we can’t control.

Hunger and famine on the streets of America along with the grip of diseases that have no cure are forcing our youth to grow up too fast in an unforgiving world.

We live in a dangerous time where the blackened hearts of men and women have created a world where not even a child is safe from the sick realities of life but it is important to remember that there are people who also work tirelessly in their defense and to make dreams come true.

A child’s life should be filled with fantasy and irrational joy instead of the things that even the most hardened adult has difficulty understanding.

When slapped in the face with these realities we have the choice of making the decision to throw our hands up in the air by way of cursing a higher power and a government of inaction or we can make the decision to look within ourselves to find a better way.

A better way that includes taking a step back from the problems in our own lives in consideration of children…

The future leaders of the free world who are to carry the torch of our forefathers in protection of the Constitution and all it stands for.

The cast aside and forgotten members of our society who have been buried in a sea of adoption and foster care red tape while the care free years of their lives waste away.

The children born with disabilities who are cast aside as mentally ill in an education system focused on test scores instead of creating productive members of society.

The hungry, malnourished, impoverished youth of America and the rest of the world, never given the same chances as their counterparts and forced to live with daily struggles of finding a meal and a place to rest their little heads.

These are the realities of the world we live in and it is the choice of every world citizen to either bury their heads in the sand or to take action in these matters.

Action to help men and women who spend every single moment of their existence to benefit the lives of these children to ensure that for at least one day they can enjoy being a kid.

No matter the age, race, religion, gender or socio economic class disease is a reality for every human being.

When stricken with a devastating or incurable disease an adult is forced to deal with life changing decisions to cope with this new reality.

With the strength of family, friends and a world community there are many stories of survivors who have fought battles against disease but we must pay extra attention when an affliction of this magnitude hits a child.

It’s hard enough for the average man or woman to understand how a world filled with so much beauty and wonder could strike down an affliction of this magnitude on an adult but it is even harder to see this situation from the eyes of a child.

Groups like the Make A Wish Foundation and Children’s Miracle Network spend each and every day tirelessly working to make at least one day easier for the youngest members of our society when stricken by these harsh realities.

The granting of these wishes is a powerful thing to witness but the magnitude of feelings that are pouring through the hearts of these children who have known nothing but hardship and fight is obvious to even the most hardened observer.

Feelings of joy and relief shine through in their smiles because for one day in their lives the afflictions poured on them for nothing more than being a kid are erased away.

It is our duty as a society to support these miracles….

We can not continue to live our lives in oblivion with the expectations of elected officials coming to Washington on rescue missions to save us from the broken system of government that isn’t supporting these causes.

These causes live and die by way of your generosity and support and the time is now to get involved.

The most important asset we have in this world is in our children.

It is the job of every world citizen to protect them and ensure our world has a future beyond the lives we live.

There can be no future without them and the present is a dark place if we don’t have the compassion to ensure all children can at least have one day of care free fantasy, love and the appreciation of a society that supports their right to these things.
