The Deconstruction of the 2010 Terror Conversation
January 3rd 2010 14:29
From the beginning of time, every succesful human society has survived by potecting it's members from foreign and domestic attack.
Protection by way of maintaining access to the nescessities of food, shelter and water fueled early societies and also set the stage for the conflicts we still witness in the world today.
There was a time when war was as simple as fighting for the things that keep us alive before there were such things as invisible borders, wars over religious belief and things as simple as ethnicity, skin color or a different way of life.
In a modern age we are still facing the same age old problems in a dangerous world.
A statement that could be understood by even the harshest critic of American foreign policy but has been twisted and turned to suit one persons political interests over another.
Political interests that were set aside on the date of September 11, 2001 as the American people were forced to come to grips with the things that were already happening in other parts of the world.
Acts of terror from men and women in foreign lands who were fueled by a misguided sense of honor from the teachings of false prophets bent on destroying anything outside of their religious beliefs.
It was on this day that the American people discovered that they didn’t have all the answers on how to maintain a Utopian society that could live above the problems of the outside world and things needed to be done to protect the American people from another attack.
As with any awakening of a sleeping giant; the things that were done fell on the shoulders of a young Presidential regime that chose to combat the situation using the weapon of extremes…
Extremes of settling old scores while also delving onto the side of "any means necessary" in extracting information from enemies of combat to prevent another national or international disaster…
From these actions, a rallying cry formed from the hearts and twisted minds of the people caught in the cross fire; as the word “torture” entered the conversation along with a cry from segments of the American public for the country once known for truth and justice to stop stooping to the level of the men and women who conducted acts of war outside of the Geneva Convention or any other document created to govern nation to nation combat.
From this early test of a Presidential regime, a new standard of forceful aggression was made as the decision enacted made to wage war on an entity that existed in international cells as opposed to a nation state.
From this forceful aggression also came a rallying cry from the left to deal with American enemies with compassion as opposed to the sword.
The lack of attacks on American soil and the poor state of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan formed a firestorm among the populous as new approach was sought to improve the situation of handling wars with nation states and terror itself.
Arguments built from lack of action were formed into campaign pledges as symbols of our failures were thrown into the spotlight with the goal of closing and relocating the prisoners of Guantanamo Bay (GITMO) and ending the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq as strategy for closing the book on eight years of failure.
Promises were met with reality as the terrorists freed from GITMO have now found themselves in new hotbeds of terror and decisions based in reality were forced to be made by a young Presidential regime in regards to Afghanistan by increasing troop levels.
The things that happen when we politicize issues in the realm of best protecting the American people is that we lose sight of the big picture…
The big picture beyond “Oil Ties”, the Presidential regime of George W. Bush and how a President who won a Presidential campaign based around the idea of “peace” is now facing the realities that exist in an unstable world.
Contrary to the deity of public opinion…
The American public is not, has not and will not be “safe” until we are ready to give up a large number of the rights we enjoy in our public life.
While it made some people feel “cozy” to believe that terrorists were somehow happier with a Democrat of "change" in the oval office or that George W. Bush was somehow the catalyst to the problem, the realities of the situation are showing us a different picture.
A different picture that displays the true face of terror that has no preference to a Democrat, Republican, Man, Woman, Child, Socio Economic Class, Religion or Sexual Orientation…
As much as the powers of extremes would like to spin this situation into Obama dropping the ball or problems that were created by the previous administration we still have to deal with the raw facts on the table.
Raw facts surrounding the continued failures in our intelligence networks or lack there of and the reactions by our national leaders when given information.
An intelligence community that dropped the ball when it came to 9/11, the Iraq War and is now at the forefront in the 2010 conversation of Terror with the latest attempt at an attack on American Soil.
Like the War on Drugs and the War on Alcohol fought at the local level; we’re no closer to winning and will never be until the American people figure out the end game.
The end game that is based less around the people in office and figures out where the holes are in the bucket.
The bucket that is going to burst if we continue the see-saw mentality that focuses failures and success on the Men and Women of opposing political parties as opposed to the strategies that pass from regime to regime laced in the same ineffective structure.
