Connecting the Dots
September 19th 2010 13:09
In a society obsessed with everything being bigger, faster and stronger it’s easy to lose sight of the missing pieces of the puzzle.
The pieces that would better explain why this lead to that and why some things never live up to their expectations.
For all the work that has been done to make our society more expedient just as much work has been done to make simple truths seem like mathematic theorems.
The simple truth of actions, reactions and consequences when it comes to greasing the wheels of the machine known as the World economy and being honest about the grim view of the things that are happening on the streets of the United States of America and the World.
For every report looking to celebrate the decline in Jobless Benefit Claims or every proclamation by an elected official about ending the program that is the life line to some out of work Americans, barely hanging onto what pennies they have, is a deeper conversation about a poverty line that is slowly inching up to absorb what was once known as the Middle Class.
A line that once defined our country as great because of the thriving area between the have’s and have not’s is now becoming a crater we don’t want to talk about where the people who have lost their means of earning income, lost their homes and way of life are now the forgotten demographic to be glossed over in favor of pretty headlines.
Pretty headlines that are a contained set of words meant to invoke an emotion that helps the public feel better about the situation we’re in rather than serving American Citizens with the whole truth.
The truth about how our way of life has forever changed and how recovery will only come when we are willing to face the real changes that will not come from a Tea Party, Progressive Movement or any other flash in the pan partisan action that will only continue to spin the merry go round.
In our anger at government inaction for the past decades is the story about a society that continues to lose sight of the dots that need to be connected.
The dots that we are told are so far apart but are really closer than anyone is willing to imagine.
When it is all said and done every religious order, political party, race, gender, sexual orientation, the rich, the poor, Democrats, Republicans, Independents and every other demographic group that is used to define who we are will be forced to look the dangerous truth in the face.
The truth about how we are all in this together and how the abyss that is growing bigger and bigger will not discriminate in deciding who it sucks in.
For every forgotten citizen that doesn’t fit into the headlines is a bigger problem that is not going away and will eventually affect us all because of the way our World society functions.
