It’s the Jobs Stupid: A Radically Independent Look at the Economic Crisis
December 6th 2009 14:45
In the not so distant past, a political philosopher came up with a simple phrase to summarize the fall of a presidential regime.
“It’s the Economy Stupid” became a rallying cry for political victory but also served as a formula for success for all future challengers in political elections at all levels of government.
While the source of our current economic crisis may be up for debate and political conjecture may also be the King of the day, there can be no arguments about the things that are happening on the streets of America and the World at this very moment.
Homelessness has become a reality for many citizens who were once considered a part of the middle class and decent jobs have become hard to come by.
With these realities in place, we have been twisted and turned on a merry go round for over a year as to how the mess should be fixed.
With the smoke slowly clearing from the fire sale, we are left to examine the decisions of what we had in front of us and the simple things that could have been done to get our country in a better place.
Simple in terms of remembering all the history that was made during the Great Depression and how it finally came to an end.
It was a matter of Americans getting back to work and taking that money home to their families that spurred a depressed economy during those trying times just as much as it will be the same solutions that will get a sputtering economy back on the tracks.
Beyond the arguments of whether we’re happy with the men and women who hold the keys to the country as decision makers or the billion dollar blank checks that have been cashed by failed automakers and banks is the startling reality of the things that are happening now and what’s to come if we don’t get our eyes on the prize.
The prize of helping all Americans get back on their feet again as opposed to only fixing the problems at the top of the food chain.
What we have is an endless merry go round of blame that has shielded us from the real issues and finding the source of the problem.
The merry go round that focused on eight years of mistakes as opposed to forming sensible solutions of preventing the tragedy of a society that is molding into a culture of the have’s and have nots.
The have’s who make up a statistical block that can form blanket arguments about retail sales improving while the have not’s are left in a daily struggle of keeping their homes from going into foreclosure and hoping that tomorrow will not be the day where they are faced with a lay off.
The blame game can stretch to all sides of the spectrum as we take an honest approach into considering the things that happened in Congress to create a national call for every American to own a home regardless of their ability to pay a mortgage or the multi decade long presidential strategy to borrow money from rogue nations as opposed to paying off the deficit.
The things that are happening across the globe are not a Republican or Democratic issue but is rather a wake up call for every man, woman and child on the planet.
A wake up call for us to remember the fundamentals behind the reasons why Democratic Nations have a political process and how we can actually do our part to make things right…
The decisions made by our politicians are reflective on us as a society simply because each and every American who has the ability to vote has an opportunity to make their voices heard in the voting booth or by directly contacting their Congressional Representatives.
The key to fixing this mess before it’s too late lies within our ability to understand the whole argument and have the conversation.
The conversation about the fruits that are to come when a discussion about the economy begins with throwing billions of dollars into the fire as opposed to looking into the reasons why the markets stopped moving.
Now is not the time for victory speeches or calling back on the mess that was in the lap of our current political leaders.
What we need is an honest conversation about how we can shorten unemployment lines while still providing a security blanket for the people who are caught in the storm.
The storm where everybody took cover in an every man and woman for themselves atmosphere that left a once prominent social group called the middle class out in the cold.
The cold that may cause death if we ignore the issue for the sake of scoring political points and miss the real issue that should have began and ended with the goal of getting it right.
