Australian Foreign Ministers tongue remains firmly in U.S. Butt

What are we to make of reports today from Australian Foreign Minister Alexander Downers claims that David Hicks is perfectly well and suffering no mental problems from his five years, much of it in solitary confinement, in Guantanamo Bay.
Mr Downer makes the statement today but will not reveal who meet with him and how this person was able to gauge that Hicks was perfectly well.
Fresh from his disgraceful performance during the AWB inquiry in which he claimed to have never been aware that the Australian Wheat Board was receiving kick-backs from Saddam Hussein’s Iraq government he now makes these claims without any substantiation.
He is an international embarrassment to this country and has shown himself and the Howard Government to be nothing more then a lackey of the U.S.A and its appalling treatment of the Australian David Hicks.
Hicks has languished in Guantanamo Bay for five years and it is now time for Downer and his cohorts to demand his return to Australia.
The actions of the U.S and Australian Governments are immoral and how they can on the one hand decry other government’s violation of human rights but allow this man to spend five years in a sub-human facility speaks volumes for their credibility.
Mr Downer is reported to have said that someone from some other country has visited him and has said that he appears well and not suffering from a mental illness.
It would appear Donald Rumsfeld has nothing on Mr Downer when it comes to ridiculous comments.
Is this the kind of report we expect from the Australian Foreign Minister surely he should be demanding that Hicks is seen by appropriate neutral health professionals who can assess someone.
It is an absolute disgrace that a man in his position can make such a frivolous report and expect it to have any credibility at all.
Maybe Mr Downer and his colleagues could take their tongues out of their American counterparts arses long enough to actually do something about calling on the Americans to act immediately or send Hicks back home.
