Politics and Culture - American Profiles In Radical Independence

“I do not want my house to be walled in on all sides and my windows to be stuffed. I want the cultures of all the lands to be blown about my house as freely as possible. But I refuse to be blown off my feet by any.” ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Awareness Event Series 2010 Official Announcement

June 29th 2010 14:36
Some dream of riches while others dream of fame.

There are even some who dream of gaining power and spreading their influence to others while there are some who simply dream of doing their part to help.

It was this spirit, of doing my part to help, that influenced me to conceptualize a concept as simple as the Awareness Event.

What began as an idea for one Reggae Show to raise money and awareness for a homeless shelter blossomed into a five event mission to raise the bar on philanthropic efforts across the nation.

Efforts that were not getting the attention they deserved and needed the helping hands of entire communities as opposed to the select few who were able to hear the message.

This call to action resulted in success.

A success that forced the mission to continue well beyond the final closing song played by With Haste to end the chapter of Awareness Event Series 2009.

The mission continued and after it was all said and done over $8,000.00 was raised for worthy causes in the Fredericksburg, VA area and beyond.

Money that was used to fund the mission of the Thurman Brisben Center to provide food and shelter for the homeless.

Money that was used in the fight against Breast Cancer to fund research, education and early detection programs.

Money that was used to help make a terminally ill child’s wish come true so that for at least one day they can live a life filled with the happiness and fantasy that every child deserves as opposed to being faced with the aspect of growing up too fast and life's cruelties.

Money that will help Farmers go to battle against Cancer without worrying about the bills and upkeep that doesn’t take a break for any sickness.

Money that went to help a breast cancer survivor in the next chapter of her life now that she is faced with a new battle against bone cancer.

These were the causes that Awareness Event went to battle for in 2009 and early 2010.

After four months of collecting our resources and conceptualizing how best we could make an impact for this year’s campaign the solution was easy.

Easy in remembering how this whole thing began and honoring the generosity and support that have continued to make each and every event a success.

In this year’s campaign we are not only going to bring back the Awareness Event Series that caused a firestorm on the web but we are also going to cement long term strategies for raising money and awareness for worthy causes well beyond any series of events.

Long term strategies by teaming up with Smokey Bones Fire Grill in Fredericksburg, VA in the execution of a weekly event dedicated to raising money for rotating charitable organizations.

In doing this, we will open up the doors for citizens like yourself to come into the restaurant any time of the day to learn more about charities involved and to directly donate to the cause while also staging a weekly party that will be designed for direct action.

Direct action with raffles, contests, give away’s and 20% of all proceeds from the cover charge every Friday night being donated to charitable organizations every week.

In the first two months of this Awareness Friday’s weekly event we will be honoring the organizations that will also be a part of Awareness Event Series 2010.

Organizations that are at the forefront of need for your generosity and philanthropic spirit in this time of economic peril.

The first of these organizations is the Thurman Brisben Center which serves as a full service homeless shelter in Fredericksburg, VA.

As you know our country is in a time of crisis with record high unemployment rates and a rise in homelessness.

These are the things we are all aware of but are not confronted with from our media outlets.

For these reasons and much more I am proud to formally announce the September 11, 2010 all ages Reggae Benefit Show II featuring Sons of Solomon which will be held at Cheeseburger in Paradise in Fredericksburg, VA and the Thurman Brisben Center Awareness Dance Party which will be held at Smokey Bones Fire Grill in Fredericksburg, VA the night of September 10, 2010 featuring DJ the Don.

These are the first two events of Awareness Event Series 2010 which will also feature the 15 Minutes of Fame Charity Show III finals at Bailey’s Pub & Grille the evening of September 18, 2010.

The charity to benefit from this event is the Carter’s Crusaders organization which is dedicated to raising money and awareness in the fight against Pediatric Brain Cancer.

As much exposure that has been received in the fight against Breast Cancer there is also a fight for our children happeneing each and every day.

Children like Carter Harris who have to find out about the harsh realities of life at the tender age of six and the families who need support to make it through the most difficult periods of life that anyone must face.

This announcement is only a small part of the bigger picture.

The bigger picture with more events to be announced with local businesses and a series of concerts and special events in the winter months and beyond…
