Politics and Culture - American Profiles In Radical Independence

“I do not want my house to be walled in on all sides and my windows to be stuffed. I want the cultures of all the lands to be blown about my house as freely as possible. But I refuse to be blown off my feet by any.” ~ Mahatma Gandhi

The Deconstruction of Radical Independence

April 18th 2010 11:31
For every movement there comes a time and place where it must be broken down to the bare essentials in order truly understand the parts that make it run…

In terms of the movement for Radical Independence we must go back to the beginning.

The beginning that started with a simple call to action for conversation on the most complex issues that are affecting each and every human being on the planet.

Issues surrounding the growing great divide in the way we focus on the things that make us different as opposed to the things that should bring us together, an environment in crisis, a lost war on drugs, an over abundance of food with a lack of oversight in the safety of how it is prepared for the general public, cultivating peace while still protecting great societies, broken systems of government that are not reflecting the true will of the people and a widening gap between the have’s and the have not’s.

A short synopsis of the myriad of problems in a world focused on the radical side of finding solutions to complex problems as opposed to approaching issues from all sides of the conversation.

Conversations that have been lost in a war of attrition between two sides that are meant to be different but always end up as the same.

The same in the results that occur every time the American people are told to believe in a political doctrine centered on smaller government, bringing morality back to America, cleaning up government from special interests and lobbyists, providing medical care for the less fortunate or the right of every American to own a home.

For all the promises from the revolving door of the politicians from one decade to the next; the American people have ultimately been forced to make the decision to keep putting the same men and women into office out of a lack of choice.

The same men and women in Congress who have managed to maintain disapproval ratings of failed leadership along side the Darth Vader of politics George W. Bush and the agent of change Barack Obama.

For all the warnings we continually receive about candidates through rumor and innuendo in political campaigns we are never given the bare facts on the impact of our choices. The impact that comes with continuing the cycle by playing the game of voting the guy or gal whom we are told has a realistic chance of winning.

What we have in modern politics is a lack of choice that has been constructed by the powers that be which has created a sense of comfortability in government between the two major parties.

A comfortability that came to a head when the corporations that fueled political campaigns were the one’s caught with their hands in the cookie jar.

The raiding of the cookie jar that sparked the greatest economic collapse since the Great Depression and left the American people holding the bag while multi billion dollar corporations received bail outs.

The bag that contained record unemployment numbers, created a cycle of homelessness for thousands of Americans and the closing of businesses across the nation.

While the facts that clearly pointed to blame from all sides of the aisle in a system of self destruction were open and apparent it was much easier to form a campaign of revolving finger pointing and blame to divert the conversation away from the real issues.

The real issues of opening up our eyes, ears and minds to the things that are happening in our countries and world without falling back to the comfortable blankets of finding a group or person to blame for all the ills of society.

As with every dark period of world history it is far too easy for human beings as a race of people to devalue another man or woman’s humanity, rights to have opinions different than their own or equal value as a citizen by dehumanizing them.

It is our inability to grasp this concept as a society that is the cause for the lack of understanding in the existence of hate, intolerance and ignorance in a modern world.

There will never be a day when every American agrees with a piece of legislation nor will there ever be a time where a President of Congressman has a 100% approval rating.

Our differences and the ability to have a system of government that can create change through our elected representatives are the things that make this country great.

What we need to do as a world society is to find a way to bring the power back to the people by rediscovering the lost conversations hidden beneath the propaganda, party bravado, rumor and innuendo.

A society loses its freedoms only after they give up their rights to take part in the actions of their government.

It is up to the people to ensure that government is living up to their side of the bargain by enacting legislation for the people and not party doctrine.

It is for this reason that we must look past the minority of lunatics and crazies who jump on the bandwagons of Tea Parties and political campaigns for change to find out what these concerned citizens are really trying to tell us.

There is not one person reading this who can honestly look themselves in the mirror and say that everything is OK…

The existence of problems in the United States and the World is a known fact but it is our duty as world citizens to find solutions and let our voices be heard.

The voice of the people is a beautiful siren that can not be ignored by any government nor can it be manipulated by a political campaign or agenda. It is our duty to maintain its purity even if it takes and act of Radical Independence to do so.
