Politics and Culture - American Profiles In Radical Independence

“I do not want my house to be walled in on all sides and my windows to be stuffed. I want the cultures of all the lands to be blown about my house as freely as possible. But I refuse to be blown off my feet by any.” ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Change, Breaking Glass Ceilings and Moving Forward As A Nation

November 8th 2008 16:59
As any action or posture long continued will distort and disfigure the limbs; so the mind likewise is crippled and contracted by perpetual application to the same set of ideas.

~Samuel Johnson, Author "Rambler"

I've had this black cloud of my worst fears spinning through the depths of my logical mind, since the projections of Virginia and California as blue states resulting in Barack Obama becoming the first African American President-Elect.

This black cloud was not in the fact that I was proud of a nation whose people could finally step out of their respective cultural and social boxes; in the words of Dr Martin Luther King, judging a man for not the color of his skin but for the content of his character, but rather what the backlash would be for all those who dared to not vote for him…

This backlash has been mean spirited, divisive and everything I have stood against in my entire life, no matter whether it was coming from a person who was black, white, asian, hispanic, male, female, gay straight or of any religious order.

As one of the only societies in the entire world who have inalieable rights of direct control of all levels of government we have to understand that an electoral landlside is not a social mandate against people who have a different set of political beliefs of how our government should be run.

The argument of how our government should be run is at the foundation of the Constitution and the friction between the dueling schools of thought in the amnount our American Government should function on the Federal level and the amount of power we filter down to our respective state structures causing our founders to develop the theory of the compromised split into a three layer government system and a Supreme Court as a safeguard from abusive laws that directly conflict with Constitutional law.

As much as I loathe the two party system and how it created the social thought of one side being evil and the other being a source of light, we have to deal with the cards that are dealt to us in the realization that the 46% of Americans who voted against a Democratic ticket did not do so in a malicious or racist manner to stop the progress of minorities to break glass ceilings in the highest levels of government but did so because they did not want to throw away their own personal values into the nation forming a government that is completely controlled by the other side…

Politics is not a sport where winners take all and we can have ticker tap parades because our idea of social thought prevailed. A compromised system means the otherside will always have a voice and must be respected.

When a person simply assumes that someone should have voted for or against Obama simply on his race or to be progressive…

It throws gasoline and fire on everything we are about to celebrate as a country.

When things started getting hot and ugly during the primary season, I was the one who stood up and said that is doesn't matter when figures like Jeremiah Wright and Louis Farakhan came out in support of Obama. These figures didn't represent the man I knew Obama was nor did they represent the ideals he was brought into his campaign.

My reaction was simply that I didn't want Obama to get elected just because he was black or to get any social hand outs and did so simply because it would delegitamize everything we would achieve as a nation when the day came that he was elected President.

While everything in Obama's speech, intelligence and nature screams for Democrats to not make this a racial or partisan issue the only colors I am seeing in the wake of this presidential race is black and white and a sea of pointed fingers in every direction…

I am going to say this nice and simple…

America, We Need To Wake Up and Grow Up Or It's All Goling To Fall Apart!!!!

Just as much as I loathed hearing the hate speech on the Repuiblican side from people of the lowest common denominator and knowing in the back of my mind that there were still racist elements in the party, the issue of states rights has no color and never has nor did I judge Sarah Palin or John McCain as racist individuals. Our history is seeped with contradictions that are hidden in the back of our text books of black slave traders and slave owners along with the factors that we work so hard to lead with our chins in breaking glass ceilings of sex, race and sexual orientation but when the moment happens we only celebrate and rally in the streets if it comes from the person who shares our beliefs and we personally identify with them.

I don't want anyone to get me wrong…

I have a long written track record of celebrating everything Obama is about and what he can bring to our world and nation.

Obama in theory is the meaning of change but he also chose to join the snake pit of two party politics. No one from either party ever comes out of this snake pit clean, unbitten and above reproach.

I'm not a fan of being the guy to prick the bubble, nor do I write these blogs to tear down the American spirit, dirty up everything our canidates can and will be or to seek approval from all of you. It's just too important for us to not take this mandate the people of the United States Of America laid down Nov 5th in a serious non partisan manner. The mandate when they finally said enough is enough and asked our canidates to work for the betterment of government and not a particular party.

The answer I'm waiting for is whether our Congressional Leadership who was right there casting their votes of yay when they authorized the war and share equal blame for the economic melt down will answer this call. Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi's hands are just as dirty as Bush's as there liberal values of working with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to get every American in a home was just the right fit for the Laissez Faire attitude of the Republican Congress and the oblivious President George W Bush...

Causing the perfect storm

It's easy to bash a Presidential regime headed out the door, but it's more important not to blind ourselves in the moment or to ruin it in the history books because we could not embrace each other as one America in a celebration of where we have been as a nation and where we are now…
