Politics and Culture - American Profiles In Radical Independence

“I do not want my house to be walled in on all sides and my windows to be stuffed. I want the cultures of all the lands to be blown about my house as freely as possible. But I refuse to be blown off my feet by any.” ~ Mahatma Gandhi

The Road to Self Destruction

August 14th 2011 13:32
From the beginning of time, the human race has made an obessesive habit out of destroying the basic components of great ideas.

Ideas created in the simplest forms to encourage men and women to come together in the spirit of peace have consistently been transformed into battering rams to further dangerous agendas.

In conversations about religious fundamentalism it’s become far too easy to point out the inconsistencies that exist in the warped minds of individuals that believe they are killing in the name of peace but it’s a much greater leap for some people in the conversation to understand the dangerous depths American Society has fallen to when it comes to discussions about the United States Constitution.

Discussions that regularly include the “intentions” of the forefathers of the United States of America and whatever an individual believes they would do if the power to run one of the greatest super powers in the history of the world rested in one of the founders hands.

When a group of men from different walks of life came together for the purpose of creating the framework for a nation that would stand the test of time against the difficulties that would define one generation from another; it was not their intention to do so in the name of any religion, moral cause or for any other purpose that would create division in any generation that came after their own.

The reason why these men came together was because of their first hand knowledge of the dangers that come when the powers that be refuse to listen to the people, the things that happen when an individual’s ability to earn a living is stifled by the actions of government, the things that happen when government takes liberties with the rights that should come upon birth and the things that happen when an individual’s right to worship or not worship whatever religion they see fit is taken away.

In modern society we have not had to face the harsh reality that the framers of the United States Constitution had to face in their lifetimes and their elder's faced in the generations before.

A reality that existed before the blood, sweat and tears dripped on American soil to lay the foundation for a nation that was able to set the standard for free societies around the globe that openly protects their citizen’s rights to speech, assembly and religion.

The things that are happening in modern America have very little do with straying from the intentions of the framers and have everything to do with a society that has evolved past the point of using common sense to figure out problems.

Instead of going by the words written in the United States Constitution and Bill of Rights some men and women in power positions have chosen to pick and choose words within the documents for the purpose of furthering dangerous agendas.

Dangerous Agendas that have created further division in a society that is still healing from a dark period of history in the not so distant past…

A dark period of history that began with the dangerous compromise that allowed slavery to continue in a nation built on the words “All MEN are Equal in the Eyes of their Creator” and ended after the Congress of the United States of America passed an amendment that only further enhanced what our forefathers clearly stated in documents centuries before.

Throughout the history of the United States of America we have made a dangerous habit of using “Constitutionality” to fight against laws passed by government we don’t like and the excuse of something being for the greater good to justify going against the framework that was clearly laid out for the people of the United States of America.

In every generation following the first generation that had the privilege of calling themselves Americans it has always been the duty of everyone who enjoys freedom to honor the documents responsible for the freedoms they were allowed to have in their lifetimes.

While we may have stumbled as a country along the way it was the stumbling that made us a great nation and not just the words written on a piece of paper 235 years ago.

With this knowledge, it should be easy for the citizens of modern society to see the writing on the wall long before it happens but many still refuse to see past their present circumstances for the dangers that happen when we divert course.

Of all the things our forefathers wrote in the Declaration of Independence, United States Constitution and Bill of Rights nothing was more important than their insistence that the United States of America remain a nation that is for and by the people.

With all the damage already done by the elements of greed, panic and laziness that allowed representatives of the people to forget this simple fact; it should be of the utmost importance that the people of the United States of America begin to wake up from their slumber.

A slumber that can only end when we begin asking the right questions and demanding better options.

Better options that will work to bring together the left, right and everyone in between to help a deeply divided country recover from the damage that has already been done to our food and water supply, environment, economy and the people of the United States of America.

Until the people stand up and demand top to bottom changes we will continue spinning on a merry go round that sometimes shines blue and sometimes shines red but always spins further and further away from the path we need to be on as a nation and a global community.
