Separating Fluff and Bull from Facts and Fiction “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell”
October 21st 2010 14:15
In the history of the United States of America no issue has caused more fear, panic, false suspicion, rumor, innuendo and false reasons for supporting archaic ideas than the issue of indoctrinating change into a system that relies on black and white to be effective.
What was once an issue of race and later became an issue of gender is now an issue of all soldiers having the same rights to live their personal lives as they see fit while also serving the country in which they live.
The reason for this needed change in the system is simple and accepted by a large portion of the American public but the larger fight for Americans to understand is the bigger picture that shows gay and lesbian members of the armed forces already fighting side by side their brothers and sisters in arms and have been doing so since the United States Armed Forces began defending the Constitution has only begun.
A needless battle fueled by only our imaginations of the worst things in our society taking place among the ranks of our armed forces because the truth was allowed to be unwrapped.
The truth that is already happening but is hidden behind the veil of closed discussion…
When the “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” policy is repealed after proper discussion and debate in both Houses of Congress it will be a glorious day in honoring the service of every gay and lesbian soldier who is already serving their country with the same courage and valor of their heterosexual brothers and sisters in arms.
The only way problems will come is if it’s repealed from a back channel or an entity outside of the military or Congress to cause chaos in the ranks from lack of preparation.
While it may be confusing for a federal court to make a landmark decision that was right on principle and to have the United States Government fight against an obvious wrong there is a reason behind the madness.
The madness that comes with deconstructing over 200 years of wrongs that have been taking place to men and women who freely took an oath of service to their country and the United States Constitution only to be told they have live their personal lives in secret.
The worst kept secret in American history is finally coming to an end and the only thing left to do is for each and every one of us to understand that the only change that will happen is the ability for our service members to live free and open lives.
