From Left Field: “Failing to Ask the Tough Questions”
June 1st 2011 12:48
All across the United States of America the effects of an election year are beginning to pollute what should be logical conversations.
Conversations that require a tough approach in order to solve problems that should have been taken care of decades ago have been replaced by the simple two letter word “No”
With all of our technological advancements and the ability for our political leaders to pick and choose from the smartest minds of the planet we have still found ourselves stuck in the mud from the empires we have chosen to build.
Empires built from the hollow stones of division that are more reliant on the presence of enemies rather than the simple solution of bringing different sides of the conversation together for the greater good.
The greater good that comes from approaching conversations about the debt ceiling from a place that has nothing to do with political posturing, promoting business in a time of economic turmoil without forgetting about the governments duty to protect the general welfare and protecting the American Dream without crawling into our respective corners of strife.
In modern culture it’s become too easy to stand against something as opposed to the hard work and dedication it takes to stand for something.
From the double sided talk of politicians from the left and right that always begin with them and they to the conversations on the streets of America that continue to point fingers at people who can no longer wreak havoc from failed policies we are a society that is still failing to understand the damage that has been done and the dangers that are to come.
After tragedy, comes a period of shock where we look to our fellow man and woman to work together in an effort to fix the mess.
After the initial period of shock and fear has passed comes a period of comfort where the people in turmoil feel comfortable in finding people to blame for the pain they are facing in their daily lives.
While understanding the source of a problem is a proper beginning for preventing the damage from happening again it should not be used as an excuse to blind ourselves from the damage that is happening in the here and now from the leaders of the houses we have chosen to support.
There will always be a time when one side is the majority and the other side will be the minority.
This is a mathematical fact that has created shifting fear, paranoia and anger for one side or the other as long as the United States of America has had political parties.
When we have failed as a country is not when we chose to allow the system to break down to only two sides of the conversation but when we chose to stop asking our leadership the tough questions because of what side of the fence they stand on.
It was the moment we stopped asking questions because of our blind support that things began to spiral out of control and the people began to lose the voice that kept our government officials in check.
In the 2012 Presidential Election we have a unique opportunity to gain this voice back through the unregulated medium of the internet to help the world understand the whole conversation on major issues that do not come down to the simple answer of yes or no, red or blue, black or white…
Until we take some time to venture out of from the caves used to shield ourselves from the debris that comes from throwing bombs at the things we are told to be against we will continue to be a reactionary society that only takes in the things we are told to eat instead of the land of the free and the home of the brave.
