The Role of Scandal in the Conversation
November 13th 2011 15:21
In the age of the 24/7 news cycle, instant information and judgment; it should come as no surprise that scandal has taken higher priority in deciding the future direction of the United States of America than the issues that will help move what was once the most prosperous nation on the planet back in the right direction.
Instead of taking the time to speak in simple terms about the sacrifices that have to be made by each and every American citizen; the politicians that will be the future leaders of the free world are given a pass to speak in broad strokes through instruments of division, fear and diversion.
Diversion fueled by agents of disruption that choose to strive for profits and political party power instead of honoring the rights that were given to them by the forefathers of the United States of America.
Rights that are being squandered in smear campaigns created to focus the attention of the voting electorate on everything that is wrong with specific candidates as opposed to forwarding conversations on the issues that affect each and every American citizen.
Issues like a growing epidemic of homelessness, a jobs crisis that is deeper and more far reaching than any media pundit is willing to admit, a crisis in our food and water supply, the need for sacrifices to made on all levels of government to fix a debt crisis that is threatening the future prosperity of the United States of America along with thousands of other conversations that aren’t being addressed.
When it comes to discoveries about sexual indiscretions, sexual harassment accusations, relationships with public figures that fall out of favor with the American public, third party accusations of racism and religious fundamentalism; the final outcome rarely has anything to do with the decisions representatives will make while in service to the American people.
While character, should be one of the most important factors in choosing a leader that will be representative of all the American people; a witch hunt to discover everything there is to be known about a man or woman should not be a distraction from getting direct answers from all the candidates concerning what they will do to help the American people through one of the darkest periods in world history once they are in office.
The number of people suffering across the United States of America will never receive the proper amount of coverage through media outlets to display the depth of the problem.
A problem that has very little to do with any specific candidate or political party and has everything to do with the way the American people have allowed the government of the United States of America to run itself.
Without the watchful eye of the media there is nobody to guard the hen house except for the wolves. The wolves that operate with the funding of political action committees, lobbyists, corporations and other shadowy figures that have better access to the representatives of the people than the average American citizen.
In the grand scheme of things, a candidate that will use inaccuracies to make dramatic points in an effort to pander to the extreme elements of their political party will not be embraced by the American people just as much as someone who participates in harassment will not be elected either.
This is something most voters understand but still choose to fall into the trap of shining the spotlight on caricatures of everything the political process should be.
A process that was created to give the American people the best options, between representatives of different political beliefs, with the goal of selecting the best man or woman for the job.
Not the best representatives of the most extreme elements of the big two political parties or the best man or woman that can play the game of hiding their dirt for the longest amount of the time but the best candidate for the highest position in the United States government.
The United States of America has become divisive because we have chosen to talk about candidates and political parties instead of issues.
We choose to laugh at and chastise candidates outside of the political belief set we have chosen to adopt instead of discussing each issue point for point and deciding which man or woman best represents the future direction we would personally like for the United States of America to move in.
The only way we can achieve real change in the United States of America is by demanding it.
Demanding it from the political parties we support.
Demanding it from the candidates that are asking for our support.
Demanding it from a profit driven national media that is only a reflection of what the American people portray themselves to be.
For a better America, we have to begin thinking on a higher level than we have ever thought before.
We have a reached a unique time in world history that requires radical change if we are going to survive. That change will not begin through any movement or political party promise or pledge.
It has to begin inside each and every one of us as individuals when we make the decision to admit to ourselves that the system is broken and can only be fixed by the people of the United States of America.
