The Reggae Benefit Show and the Fight to Help our Fellow Man
August 21st 2009 11:38
In every community across the nation there are places where compassion pours out of the hearts of people who have dedicated mind body and soul to help their fellow man.
Compassion to help the tired, weary and hungry looking for the spark of hope to get back on their feet again…
Times of crisis that can appear cold and calculating from the outside looking in until the doors of hope open with a warm embrace to nourish the impoverished with food that may not have filled bellies for a period of time or to offer a bed for someone who lost a home due to circumstances outside of their control.
With a strong amount of love and respect we will be doing our part to help the group of urban warriors who run the Thurman Brisben Center on September 11, 2009 through the Reggae Benefit Show.
With these thoughts in mind we have not only located the best talent possible to represent the love that comes from this facility on a daily basis but we are also dedicating this show to raising funds, food and awareness to the cause of helping the homeless in the Fredericksburg region.
The winter months are especially harsh for any facility that is trying to maintain supplies to help their fellow man, woman and child have a roof over their head which is why we need full community support for this event.
Full support by way of asking you to come out and enjoy a grassroots Reggae Show courtesy of DC’s premiere Reggae Band Dub City Renegades who have donated their time and energy to the cause of eradicating homelessness.
With a donation by way of a $5.00 cover charge or 2 canned food items at the door each person who takes part in this unique opportunity to enjoy a great show at Buffalo Wild Wings in Fredericksburg, VA will be doing their part to help in the battle against homelessness in the Fredericksburg area.
A battle that has no halftime or intermission in the continuing struggle that builds at an even stronger pace in the times of national economic crisis…
A crisis that can fool us with stories of recovery and American triumph in adversity while allowing us to forget the people who fell off the tracks by way of losing their homes and way of life in the struggle to get back on their feet again.
Facilities like the Thurman Brisben Center are a blessing for any community and their work should never be hidden or forgotten in the conversation of the things we can do to help our local community.
Some of you may be from areas outside of the region but there are facilities in your county, city or state that are working hard with helping hands in need of your support.
Support that has no value when a man woman or child who has not eaten for some time is able to get a meal along with a warm bed to sleep in even if it is for just one night.
Things we take for granted are life changing moments for others and we must remember this in the fight to help our fellow man woman and child.
Thurman Brisben Center, is a full service residential emergency homeless shelter in Virginia's Planning District 16. Planning District 16 is comprised of the City of Fredericksburg and the Counties of Caroline, King George, Spotsylvania and Stafford. Although classified as an emergency shelter, we are a high demand program fully addressing the issues that cause homelessness.
