Politics and Culture - American Profiles In Radical Independence

“I do not want my house to be walled in on all sides and my windows to be stuffed. I want the cultures of all the lands to be blown about my house as freely as possible. But I refuse to be blown off my feet by any.” ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Dear Mr. President

May 15th 2011 13:11
Dear Mr. President, I am writing you today as a citizen concerned about the things happening in his nation and the world as a whole.

As a citizen of the United States of America I have had no choice but to deal with the affects of living in a nation that prefers to discuss important issues with the volume turned up as opposed to taking time to listen to the little things.

The little things that will have a bigger effect on the world as a whole than the price of oil, American debt crisis, wars in the Middle East and the firestorm surrounding the Health Care Legislation that was signed by your pen.

The problem I have with the things happening in the United States of America has everything to do with the direction this country is headed in taking charge of the health epidemic that is affecting each and every person living within the borders of the United States of America in one way or another.

An epidemic that involves the faceless monster known as Cancer, Obesity, Diabetes, High Blood Pressure and many other health related problems that have become major issues of concern in the 21st century.

For all the talk that has been done concerning the quest to find a cure for Cancer, stomping out Obesity by encouraging Americans to eat right and exercise along with the work being done in rural communities and urban centers to change lifestyles; very little has been done by your administration and past administrations to take an honest look at the evidence that is right in front of our faces.

Evidence that boldly points to a correlation between changes in the way food is produced and illnesses that have become common place in modern society.

Instead of an open and transparent dialogue about the reasons why Obesity has progressively gotten worse from year to year and how Cancer has become a harsh reality for too many families we have chosen to go off course in letting public opinion dictate the facts of the issue.

Public opinion that is built on a mountain of excuses rooted in blaming people for making poor lifestyle choices, passing off the problems of modern living to genetics and heredity and looking to fitness as a strategy for fixing the problem instead of common sense.

As the most powerful man in the free world it is your responsibility to protect the United States of America and the United States Constitution from all enemies both foreign and domestic.

On this day I am asking you to honor the oath you took before becoming the 44th President of the United States of America by taking an all of the above approach in fighting a problem unique to the time we live.

Millions of Americans are being exposed to dangers they are unaware of each and every day for the sake of billion dollar corporations having extra padding on their quarterly profits.

Extra padding that is coming at the cost of future generations having the opportunity to live lives without the fear of the being stricken with an illness years down the road from being exposed to genetically produced additives, chemical additives, hormones, antibiotics and filth.

Some may feel that it is too much to ask of you to take charge of a situation that may impede the progress of business in the midst of one of the worst economic periods in world history but this unique situation is calling for a dynamic solution.

A solution that must begin at the highest levels with an approach that involves bringing together Americans as opposed to the spirit of division that is overshadowing the things that should be at the forefront of conversation.

It is my hope that this letter will open up a new way of thinking for my fellow citizens when it comes to the most basic issues that affect us on a daily basis.

Issues that have everything thing to do with providing the opportunity of choice in taking charge of our health in a world that is swiftly moving towards a completely industrialized food industry.

The thought of this happening instills a sense of dread into the core of my body for the millions of people it will affect.

From the moment pilgrims first set foot on the land that is now known as America we have always been an agricultural society in one way or another.

No matter how technologically advanced the world becomes we will never be able to run away from this basic fact without tilting the balance of nature even further.

On this day I am asking you to carefully consider the decisions your office is making and the dangerous consequences that will come from continuing the course.

The course that has already been diverted in many European nations and Australia when the same evidence presented to you in this letter resulted in a restructuring of the food industry as a whole in these nations.

If the United States of America is to have a future with her citizens living long, healthy and productive lives we must work together a society to correct the systemic problems in the food industry.

It is my hope that you will use the powers of your office to think beyond the recommendations of any food czar or industry expert to reach a solution rooted in common sense and the simple purity of doing what’s right for the American people.

Sincerely,

Khalfani A, King
