Politics and Culture - American Profiles In Radical Independence

“I do not want my house to be walled in on all sides and my windows to be stuffed. I want the cultures of all the lands to be blown about my house as freely as possible. But I refuse to be blown off my feet by any.” ~ Mahatma Gandhi

The Simplicity of Now

February 12th 2012 14:33
Every man, woman and child has been born to complete a simple task.

A task that doesn’t have anything to with the country we are born in, how much money our family possesses, the religion we choose to worship or not worship, societal class, gender, race, sexual orientation, national origin or any of the other things that are used to define us in modern society.

The task we are born to complete is to live our short lives with meaning.

To do things of significance that will mean more than helping ourselves or our circle advance in society.

Somewhere between the simplicity of basic survival that our ancestors trudged through to find food, build and maintain shelter and advance as a species; the human race forgot the simplicity of life.

Simplicity that is about more than finding cures for diseases of our own design.

Simplicity that is about more than holding money in higher regard than the needs of our fellow man.

Simplicity that is lacking in the decisions of men and women in positions of power across the globe.

When we take an honest look at all the problems in modern society that are affecting our daily lives we have no choice but to break down the self imposed obstructions that are preventing change.

Obstructions in our own minds that prevent us from seeing that the idea of pack mentality has created a system that has created only two options that are basically the same.

Options that define themselves on the issues that strike fear in our hearts but to do very little to open up a dialogue about how to fix the most basic problems that are killing us.

The plague of of greed, lack of transparency and government acting on the interests of the people able to buy influence over the needs of the citizens they took an oath to serve is a problem that stems from both sides of the aisle.

A problem that has nothing to do with the race of the President of the United States of America.

A problem that has nothing to do with abortion, religious rights, the right to own a gun or any of the other issues that consistently move to the forefront of conversation when political figures seek to divert our attention away from the actions they are taking to the things that desperately need to be done.

Citizens of the United States of America are living in dangerous times with fear, lust for the idealized future of streets paved with blue or red gold and our own selfish interests clouding the most important issues.

Issues that no man, woman or child can avoid through groups that separate them from the herd.

No matter if you’re a Vegan, Carnivorous, Democrat, Republican, Libertarian, Constitutionalist, Christian, Muslim, Hindu, Jewish, Buddhist, Black, White, Asian, Hispanic, African American, Pro Environment, Pro Industry, Gay, Straight or anything in between…

We all breathe the same air.

We all have the same sources of drinking water.

Our food sources are affected by water and air pollution.

When governments are influenced by corporations they make their own rules that allow them to act without regard for consumer health.

A byproduct of this in-action is the destruction of the environment and spread of disease caused by overcrowding and poor condition of farm animals.

We all share the same freedoms that are being taken away from us each and every day because the people refuse to seize the opportunity to understand the simplicity of now.

Simplicity that is about more than being angry and grabbing a comfortable party banner.

Simplicity that is about more than taking to the streets for a cause but not taking the time to understand all sides of the issue.

Simplicity that needs to come from directly from the people and not a political party, puppet master that is funneling our efforts for one side to gain a foothold over the other or a member of the societal elite that is looking to throw stones at one of their counterparts.

Any movement for change has to be pure.

Without purity we are doing nothing more than spinning the merry go round to our oblivion.

Oblivion that will reset the clock to zero…

A number that will force us to do the one thing that needs to happen.

Come together as a society.
