True Stories of the American Dream from the Hearts and Minds of Real Americans Part VI

All things are perceived in the light of charity, and hence under the aspect of beauty; for beauty is simply reality seen with the eyes of love.

In today’s discussion of True Stories I’m looking to have a conversation about the next stage of Radical Independence…
A stage that goes beyond tearing down the Invisible Walls that separate us along the lines of political thought, race, gender or sexual orientation and goes to the very heart of why each and every one of you continue to join the conversation here each and every week.
A few short weeks ago I laid down a call to action to each and every one of my readers to share their individual stories to act as a road map for others that may follow in their foot steps.
The time has come to take the step beyond a call to action and place our feet squarely on the throat of a society screaming for change in a plea to help our fellow man.
The call during Election “08” was for our government to read the writing on the wall and work for the American people but promises did not spawn action after the parades and showboating left our nation’s capital.
Lessons were learned as the average citizen awoke to the realization that it will take more than a changing of the guard in the oval office for us to get it right as a society.
Men and women of every race and gender who work tirelessly to cure diseases that currently have no cure or spend their lives trying to put food on the table for homeless American children can’t rely on promises that come in a political campaign or for the government to fix all of our problems.
These modern day hero’s need your help and it’s important for us to honor their tireless work in the midst of an economic crisis.
What happens in times of crisis is we first realize that our personal lives are not the same as they were before.
The panic leads to anger and ultimately ends with changes in lifestyles until an “economist” finds a way to speak to our fears, through broadcast mediums, in a pale effort to make us feel cozy with the reassurance that the economy is in a period of recovery.
The problem with an economist’s translation of the economy recovering and the harsh realities of those who have lost their jobs, homes and ability to feed their families is an issue of the distance from the situation.
It’s easy for me to come on here from week to week and shake my fist in anger against the government for burying our nation in a sea of inefficiency but if there’s one thing I have taught myself through this re-evaluation of my Independence it is within the fact that there is always time for anger, a time to fight and a time to do something about it by making an impact.
The time to make an impact is now and my plan will need the support from each and every one of you to help make it a reality.
In this next stage of Radical Independence I’m looking to build a movement based around a series of events.
These events will be called “Awareness Events” featuring local talent helping worthwhile causes at establishments in a town near you.
100% of proceeds from these events will go directly to these causes that will be featured in the weekly conversation of True Stories.
The goal of beginning this column was to help the average American understand a world that may not give us everything on a silver platter.
At some point beyond any social discrimination in the work place or area that our government may have failed us in our personal lives is a place where the people who have no voices and need help can reach out to their fellow man.
The time is now for these voices to be heard and if there’s anything I could possibly accomplish in this life time; my hope is that it would be to serve as a beacon for people looking for roads to a better life.
A better life that includes proper funding for Cancer, Diabetes and AIDS research beyond sitting on our hands and waiting for “chosen” politicians to break open mythical piggy banks of government funding…
A better life that includes children of every social class being able to have three square meals a day and access to a proper education...
A better life where the average citizen can become a power player through events as simple as coming out see a great band and enjoying the company of others who are also looking to make a difference…
In order for us to make an impact we must first build awareness.
Throwing money at the problems of society is a start but without awareness the cause can neither have a beginning, middle or an end.
