Rising to the Challenge
November 20th 2011 14:20
It’s been said that the true nature of a society isn’t measured in times of comfort or prosperity but is measured in times of crisis and despair.
If this statement has any truth; these are the times that we will find out the true nature of world society.
We will find out if we are a society that creeps into our respective corners to find solutions that work for the few while the many suffer.
We will find out if the ideal of Democracy will lose its meaning because the people forgot about the sacrifices needed to maintain it.
We will find out if the phrase “United We Stand, Divided We Fall” is something that should be reserved for history books or if it still has relevancy in modern society.
At a time when we have so much to lose it’s become harder and harder for the powers that be to see the forest from the trees…
The forest, thick with mistakes of yesteryear from thinking about only today and not considering the consequences that would pile up for generations to come.
Generations that must now pay for the billions of dollars in campaign contributions that loosened the screws on flood gates that are causing people around the world to drowned.
If we take an honest look at the grievances of the Occupy Movement, Tea Party and the pain that is being felt by millions of Unemployed Americans it all comes back to the way the people of the United States of America have allowed their government to function.
A system of cozy relationships that has created damage within the world food and water supply, an economic collapse along with an epidemic of homelessness and unemployment.
Instead of taking an honest look at the situation; the people of United States of America have decided to search for solutions in anger.
Anger from separate camps as we search to blame the rich, political parties that don’t fit within our belief set and anyone else that makes it easy for us to forget that this problem is bigger than anything that can be solved in one session of Congress.
Sticking our thumbs in the eye of things we do not agree with in the system is not and will never be the solution to fixing a problem that is systemic.
A broken system must be fixed by replacing outdated ideas with fresh thinking that is outside of the same recurring themes that appear on the ballot the second Tuesday of every November.
Whether or not we choose to rise up against the problems happening around the globe is up to the people.
The people that have the privilege of being able to speak against the actions of government when bad decisions are made and also have the right to replace them with leadership that will represent their beliefs.
When all the options begin to resemble each other it is the duty of the people to see through the smokescreens and decide that sustaining a broken system is no longer a viable option.
Until the people do this, we are doing nothing more than spinning the Merry Go Round that will go round and round with the same people benefitting from its momentum while everyone else is left to watch until it spins off its axis and everyone is forced to put it all back together again.
