Politics and Culture - American Profiles In Radical Independence

“I do not want my house to be walled in on all sides and my windows to be stuffed. I want the cultures of all the lands to be blown about my house as freely as possible. But I refuse to be blown off my feet by any.” ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Memorial Day 2011 Tribute

May 29th 2011 12:54
On this weekend when Americans from sea to shining sea pay tribute to the men and women that gave the ultimate sacrifice for the United States of America it is more important now than ever that we not forget the true meaning behind the remembrance.

A meaning that is deeper than any single battle, war campaign, capture of a dictator that caused destruction in the lives of innocents and the ending of a terrorists religious campaign of chaos against millions of people across the globe.

What Memorial Day weekend should mean to millions of American citizens is a tribute to the men and women that make a daily sacrifice in defense of the United States Constitution and the ideals of the United States of America each and every day that began when they made the decision to serve.

Service that would require missing birthdays, anniversaries, children growing up and leaving behind loved ones with the possibility of every hug, kiss goodbye and broken embrace being their last.

For the men and women of the United States Armed Services wearing the uniform isn’t about paying the mortgage but is about a way of life in honor of the warriors that came before them and gave the ultimate sacrifice by laying their lives on the line for the people of the United States of America.

Too often, we get wrapped up in disagreements that promote generalities of a war being “Just” or look for reasons to create division in conversations about the direction of foreign policy and the use of American Fighting Forces.

No matter the directives of political leadership or the public outcry for or against military campaigns; the men and women of the armed services will always stand ready to follow orders in service to their country and should be commended for doing so.

Commended each and every day of the year for the work they do that isn’t celebrated on JumboTron’s in football stadiums nor is it placed front and center in a ticker tape parade to celebrate the victories the American public is told about and the victories achieved in silence.

Each and every day, citizens of the United States of America are able to go about their daily lives in search of the American Dream because of the sacrifice of men and women that served in the United States Military and the members of the Armed Services that continue to serve.

Every member of the Armed Services serving in a foreign land, wounded warrior that sacrificed their health and well being, Sailor, Soldier, Airmen, Marine, member of the United States Coast Guard, Member of the Secret Service, Member of the FBI, CIA, NSA and other Intelligence Services along with the men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice from all of these branches of service deserves a big thank you this Memorial Day Weekend and the other 365 days of the year for all the work they do to protect the United States of America.

Freedom that is sometimes taken for granted but is never forgotten because of the work that is done by the men and women dedicated to the defense of the United States Constitution and everything the American flag stands for.

For those who have sacrificed in service to the United States of America the people of the country you serve are forever indebted to you for everything you selflessly gave for your country.

For the men and women currently serving in the United States Military it is not enough to simply say thank you for all that you do.

For your selfless sacrifice a nation stands in gratitude for all the work you do that is rewarded with medals and the work done in defense of our freedom that is not rewarded with public honors.

Each and every man and woman who serves or has served is a hero for the sacrifice they have given to people they may never meet in their lifetime and the legacy left behind for future generations.
