Politics and Culture - American Profiles In Radical Independence

“I do not want my house to be walled in on all sides and my windows to be stuffed. I want the cultures of all the lands to be blown about my house as freely as possible. But I refuse to be blown off my feet by any.” ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Save The Ta Ta’s 80’s Happy Hour: A Night of Celebration, Fun and Awareness

September 4th 2009 11:47
The second phase of the Awareness Event kicks off tonight at Applebee’s Plank Road in Fredericksburg, Virginia.

As we approach important goals we must remember the reasons why we come out to celebrate causes bigger than ourselves.

Causes that have forced us to expand our thinking into formulating ideas about how we can do our part to help our fellow man, woman and child…

As you all know Cancer is an epidemic that is not isolated to the United States or any particular part of the world. Cancer is a disease that has impacted every man, woman and child on the planet in some way shape or form.

This affect hits home with each and every event we do in the faces of the survivors, people going through the fight and family members who have memories of loved one’s who left us too soon.

Opportunities to help are in front of our faces everyday with organizations like Susan G. Komen for the Cure and National Philanthropic Trust who are leading the charge in funding research, screening and education for the cause of fighting Breast Cancer.

Organizations like these have been and will always be a source where each and every one of us can donate our hard earned money to help in the fight against a faceless killer but it’s nights like the one that is happening tonight where we can go out, let loose and partake in celebration for the cause while also doing our part to help our fellow man, woman and child.

Going beyond the concept of the typical “Happy Hour” we are expanding the scope of entertainment in an effort to raise money and awareness.

An expansion of entertainment that will serve as the birth of new ideas in philanthropy that will help men and women in the fight against Breast Cancer while also building memories for all members of the community who come out to support the cause.

The featured attraction of the evening is the all too familiar 80’s theme.

In this theme we are not asking anyone to dig into their closets for those George Michaels jeans nor do we want to relive the Madonna “Like a Virgin” Video.

What we will be featuring are the tunes from the generation many of us are familiar with but are not willing to readily broadcast this fact in front of co workers or friends.

Along side these tunes will be an opportunity for the audience to partake in Karaoke activities along with the chance to win prizes that have been donated by the local community.

Donated from Mike’s Hard Lemonade is a summer essentials kit that includes a Cooler on Wheels, Mini Grill and a pair of Mike’s Hard Lemonade Lawn Chairs. Along with this grand prize are gift certificates from Famous Dave’s and the sight of last week’s Pub Happy Hour Firkin & Bulldog.

In order to win these prizes you must place first second or third in our 15 Minutes of Fame Talent Contest. A contest designed to raise money and awareness for causes; will put the power of deciding the best talent in the hands of the audience by way of donation.

Donations to who they feel has the best talent and will be given directly to Team Bras For A Cause and will help in the bigger battle to find a cure.

In the spirit of America’s Got Talent, American Idol and the Gong Show we leaving the door wide open in welcoming any and all talents to compete for prizes. Singers, Comedians, Freestyle Rappers, Contortionists, Acoustic Artists, Child Prodigies and any other talents are welcome to enter into this ground breaking contest.

When the smoke clears and the Save Ta Ta’s 80’s Happy Hour is an afterthought our hope is for this event to have served as a place that made a dent in the bigger fight to find a cure.
