Politics and Culture - American Profiles In Radical Independence

“I do not want my house to be walled in on all sides and my windows to be stuffed. I want the cultures of all the lands to be blown about my house as freely as possible. But I refuse to be blown off my feet by any.” ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Preparing For The Dark Future of America & The World In A Rapidly Changing Society

March 12th 2009 13:40
"New opinions are always suspected, and usually opposed, without any other reason but because they are not already common."

John Locke (1632-1704)

During times of darkness and despair it’s hard to see past the pain that has come to our own door steps…

The pain of a failed banking industry initiated from greed and strife in our law making bodies and our own devices on a personal level.

Unemployment and homelessness going beyond the city street corner and striking middle class neighborhoods in the form of foreclosures that hit average hard working Americans in ways that were never thought possible.

Violence hitting our children’s classrooms, our community churches and homes as options run dry and desperation takes hold.

These are the things of biblical proportions that were passed down from our elders that all centered on the time after the turn of the century.

The problem with our society today is that we’ve become so out of touch with our roots we can’t imagine things happening that we didn’t see with our own eyes.

Things like the pain and grit every American felt regardless of race, gender or nationality during the Great Depression and what it took for us to ultimately escape disaster.

As much as our Democratic Congress would like to evoke the name of FDR and create new programs throwing money at the problem as a means of escape, it was ultimately WWII that got Americans back to work in building war machines that pulled us out of one of the darkest periods in American history.

When I look at the history of our current financial crisis I am forced to come to no other solution besides the simple answer of our society becoming to fast and out of touch.

Like a well oiled machine we perfected everything in our lives.

The Food Supply converted from an industry built on family ties and pride into a monopolistic million dollar empire based on profits and bottom lines.

The environment that gave us the air we breathe and the water we drink treated like a possession that is abused and thrown away like a child’s toy while we pollute her with our waste products, treat the animals we share the planet with like commodities for our pleasure and rape her lands simply because we were given gifts we like to call "intelligence".

I understand that is hard for any American to think outside of the box when the only thought running through our heads is that of daily survival.

The problem with a crisis the magnitude of the one we’re in is that survivalist thought and expression is exactly the very thing that is going to be our downfall.

Outside forces and things that are meant to be won't come to a halt through reliance in federal government and the sins of our expediency simply have to be brought to the forefront for us to become a better society.

The more I hear the prophecies about the date of December 21, 2012 the less concentration I put on the date and look deeper and deeper into how we live our lives today.

What I see is a culmination of centuries of physical and mental war’s we have fought with each other and the Earth we live.

In theory it’s almost as if the Chickens are coming to roost as the money we have used to build empires and enslave people through systems of credit are now the very thing that is causing us harm.

From simple things like the average American running up credit card debt and buying things we can’t afford to the credit card companies enslaving the impoverished by offering loans to those whom they knew didn’t fit the model of being able to ever settle their debts...

The blame stretches to all sides of the issue and ultimately falls in the lap of the Congressmen and President’s who allowed the special interests to take the voice of the American people out of their decisions in how to approach the actions of the financial industry.

What’s done is done and we’re going to have to deal with the financial pain leading up to 2012 and beyond.

In time our financial pain will be the least of our worries as issues the likes of global warming will also come to forefront as the temperature will continue to rise creating a corrective reaction from our planet that will spawn new storms and cataclysmic events correcting the damage done to her.

As much as I would like to paint a rosy picture of all these events coming together in a perfect storm and the human spirit persevering in story book fashion; I’m, having a hard time coming to that point…

It’s not like we didn’t have opportunities and warnings to avert our current and impending disasters over the centuries and promises from politicians of every politcal affiliation to do so when elected into office.

The talk always swirled in campaign seasons with results ultimately resting in the same place.

Killed in the middle of partisan arguments over who was going to get the credit while partisan measures, invisible war’s on drugs, abortion, gun control and terror dominated the compromised agendas as we all went about our daily lives like their was nothing going on.

The facts are astounding and there is no possible way I could argue with the conspiracy theorists.

When I think backs to dates prophesied in the 80’s and 90’s where a psychic woke up one morning and said the world would end this afternoon it throws a chilling form of caution into my approach to this issue.

I also think about the fear that surrounded Y2K and how in a T3 Judgment Day fashion our computers were going to suddenly shut down and turn against us leaving the world in a nuclear holocaust.

The truth behind the prophecies is that none of these things happened on the actual expressed days but they still laid symbolism on the rail road tracks for us to understand what was to come.

The expressed interest around the turn of the century didn’t come to fruition on the exact day of January 01, 2000 but in the typical inexact proportion of our universe struck to the heart of every American and the world a year later.

The events of 9-11 may not have been the first spark that ignited the fuel of the current run away train we’re on but it was surely the catalyst of our current foreign policy situation and economic crisis.

The symbolic transition from wars that concentrated on nation to nation conflict combated with Cold War strategies to that of dealing with the daily threat of terrorism both domestic and foreign.

Our enemies are no longer as clear cut as a flag, country, religion, or idealistic belief but have and will become multi headed as international financial situations will breed collusions between extremist groups and established nations.

The problems we face as human beings are going to be grave as we seek survival from mistakes of our own creation.

There is still a piece of me that is hopeful for some point within the next 3 years when the government agenda will change from ”We’re right” and “You’re wrong” to something along the lines of “What The Hell Have We Done.”

The sad part in this conversation is that we’re way past the point of no return as a Global Community.

The true victims are the men women and children of third world nations and their situation is slowly spreading upwards to the rest of the world with the true reality.

The places our news cycles aren't talking about where war, famine and drought are a daily reality.

The places where those who have power are eating all the food with what little is left and those who want to live are taking up lives of extremism as they fight for their tribe, their home and way of life along ethnic lines.

Crisis and poverty truly brings out the worst in our human nature and these are the realities that are coming to our doorstep only leaving me with one question….

“Are we truly ready to deal with what’s to come or are we going to keep fighting each other, the world and our inner selves till the very end?”
