Politics and Culture - American Profiles In Radical Independence

“I do not want my house to be walled in on all sides and my windows to be stuffed. I want the cultures of all the lands to be blown about my house as freely as possible. But I refuse to be blown off my feet by any.” ~ Mahatma Gandhi

The Price of Freedom

January 8th 2012 14:52
In a society that creeps closer and closer to brink of implosion on a daily basis; words like “Freedom” and “Liberty” are the struck set of matches that are dangerously too close to the leaking propane tank.

Words with a simple meaning but a complex definition; have become a rallying cry for many citizens across the United States of America to speak out against the policies of democratically elected representatives on all levels of government while not honoring the true intentions of the forefathers of the United States of America in their personal lives.

Freedom requires sacrifice from each and every American Citizen.

Sacrifice from citizens that make the decision to serve their nation and sacrifice in the way we choose to think about freedom beyond the way it serves our personal interests.

A free society is a society that respects the rights of each and every individual and not the rights of the select few.

Too often, we fall into the trap of thinking that expediency to eradicate a problem is better than the time honored tradition of using common sense.

The kind of common sense that would open the eyes of American Citizens to the atrocities that have been done to the United States Constitution in the name of protecting the American people from Terrorists, Drugs and the things that certain people in positions of power simply do not like.

In our quest to become a safer nation we have stripped away the rights of the individual citizen to feel secure in the fact that they are protected from the intrusion of government on our right to privacy, we have stripped away our right to remain innocent until proven guilty and our right to maintain freedom from government detention until it is proven that we lost our right to remain free.

These things have happened in a nation built on the tenants of freedom because the American people chose to fight against them as Republicans and Democrats instead of as citizens of one of the greatest nations in world history.

In our fight against the policies of President William Jefferson Clinton, President George W. Bush and President Barack Obama we have lost sight of the fact that it takes a majority in both houses of Congress, a sitting President and the approval of the Supreme Court to allow laws that are unconstitutional to stand.

The fight to regain our freedom is not a Republican, Democratic or Libertarian cause nor will it come from any movement sprung from any of these political parties.

Freedom is and will always be about the American people and whether or not they are willing to put aside their race, gender, party affiliation, national origin, sexual orientation and religious affiliation to understand what we have lost and will continue to lose if we allow this to continue.

Freedom is not and will never be free.

It is up to us as individuals to decide if we want to live in a nation that honors the intentions of the forefathers of the United States of America or if we want to live in a nation that claims to respect words on a piece of paper but let’s it government operate however they choose.
