The “Radical” in Radical Independence
December 4th 2011 14:36
Each and every day we are faced with important decisions.
Decisions that will have an impact on the direction of our lives, the lives of loved ones and the lives of our fellow man woman and child…
Each and every one of these decisions ultimately begins with a choice.
A choice between taking time to listen to all sides of the conversation before forming opinions or continuing to walk along the path of division and destruction that has brought us to this point.
While it has become cliché to open up discussions on polarization, race, economic disparity, rights for all people and the political divide that exists on the streets of America and on Capitol Hill; there are very few people in the conversation willing to make the necessary sacrifices to fix an epidemic.
An epidemic of short sightedness that is responsible for the problems we are facing in modern society.
Problems that surfaced because the American people were steered in the direction of fighting with each other while the cogs in the machine were pulled out of whack.
Cogs in the machine that are attacked when it is politically advantageous and are left to continue with business as usual when headlines conflict with important issues.
It has become radical to stand up and say what needs to be said instead of blindly following political party directives.
It is the idea that there are only two sides of the conversation that allowed leadership to narrow down the decisions of the American people to a pair of failed choices.
Failed choices that are both part of the same system that is fed millions of dollars by the corporations, special interests, political action committees and shadowy figures the government is supposed to regulate.
Instead of standing up against a broken system it has become status quo to look for change in a religion, political party, race, gender or single idea.
The United States of America is a nation that continues to be at war with itself in the midst of one of the worst crisis’s the world has ever witnessed.
At a time when the world should be rallying together with open arms to help their fellow man the media has gone silent about the severity of the issue.
The severity that comes with millions of people being added to an already astonishing number of jobless and homeless American citizens.
The severity that comes with the loss of choice at the grocery store, restaurant, in our homes and water faucet.
The severity that comes with a lack of influence in the decisions of elected representatives.
When it becomes blatantly obvious that the system we are told to adhere to is not working in the best interests of the people it was created for we have no choice but to become radical in a radical world.
While the idea of being radical has been reserved for revolutionaries, rebels and freedom fighters in most conversations we must take the time to try and mold this word for the things that have to be done to get the United States of America and the rest of the world back on the right path.
In a world of extremes being radical means rejecting the things we are told to believe.
Rejecting the idea that there are only two sides to every conversation.
Rejecting the idea that everyone of a certain race, gender, sexual orientation or religion thinks the same way, wants the same things or has a certain political belief set.
Rejecting the idea that change can only come from one side of the conversation.
Rejecting the idea that we live our lives within demographics instead of as one American society.
Radical Independence is an acceptance of every religion, political belief, race, gender, nationality, national origin, creed and sexual orientation while also rejecting the idea that these are the things that define us.
It should be the goal of each and every American citizen to see past the spin, double-speak and attempts to cause panic and disruption in order to find a better tomorrow.
A better tomorrow that will get Americans back to work again.
A better tomorrow that will lead to smarter decisions that work for all the American people.
A better tomorrow that will bring together the American people instead of tearing them apart.
