Politics and Culture - American Profiles In Radical Independence

“I do not want my house to be walled in on all sides and my windows to be stuffed. I want the cultures of all the lands to be blown about my house as freely as possible. But I refuse to be blown off my feet by any.” ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Radical Independence In Definition, Application & Thought

November 12th 2008 17:04
I am trying to do two things: dare to be a radical and not a fool, which is a matter of no small difficulty...

~James A Garfield

Six short months ago I took the brave steps of drawing the line in the sand, in my declaration of Independence.

When the word Independent is brought up in political conversations it is usually misconstrued with wishy washy individuals who like to pick winners in political contests or those who are somehow on one side or the other on most major issues and has chosen not to take allegiance with either major party on a full time basis.

This is not my Independence…

My Independence is deeply rooted in the fundamentals this great nation was built on as well as freedom in thought, culture health and nature.

For me a radical is a person in a society who goes beyond "normal" rational thought in an effort to stand up to an establishment who is not working for the betterment of their society.

Radicals can be found in every aspect of world societies in the form of religion, political thought, animal rights, environmentalism, feminism, chauvinism, defense and promotion of race and degradation and suppression of another man's race as well as radical partisans from every political ideology around the globe.

Too much of anything is bad for the soul and as Americans we more than prove this theory in the application of our daily lives.

We purchase and drive huge gas guzzling vehicles as status symbols and than complain about how our government isn't doing enough to bring down costs.

Our Gas price problem is a product of how we live our lives as we never have and never will put the pressure on our government leaders to take any serious steps to get our dirty hands out of the cookie jar. The same roller coaster goes up and down every year with prices and we always turn into suckers after a few months of gas prices slightly more expensive than where they were the year before.

An over excess of food has made us a wasteful society as we choose to trade in common sense for the drive through and $5.00 extra value meal. The reason why we supported these corporations was in an effort to ease the burdens of a hustle and bustle society taking the burden off of our daily lives in taking care of our basic needs and as in most aspects of American culture, a corporate empire grew and preyed on our laziness. The products that went into the food became less about the nutrition we needed to live healthy lives and more about how these companies could maximize profits resulting in an obesity epidemic from sea to shining sea.

The sad part about this whole situation is the fact that our "intellectual leaders" can tell us to put down the Big Mac or Whopper all they want, but these companies are so engrained into our American culture that we simply don't have the power to listen or are so culturally engrained into the aspect of quick and cheap food that it doesn't stack well on our list of priorities…

Our quick and fast technological society came to halting reality in the past eight years as we watched a Tech Boom explode as well as fortune 500 companies filibuster in scandals of corporate greed that lead to the downfall of major corporations and thousands left without their pensions or jobs to sustain their way of life.

Seeing and hearing all this go down on the news was one thing for Americans but it wasn't until things became "real" with a mixture of bank & mortgage foreclosures along with rocket high gas prices and massive unemployment that our nation finally woke up…

History would note that this would have been a time of action for this country to stand up and say enough is enough from a government that let all this happen but this was and will not be the case.

In our reality show minds we allowed the media to paint a picture of hero's and villains and painted the divided Us vs. Them mural in a blue and red theme along with the "Free Pass" and "Criminalization" along party lines.

In this climate where public mood is at an all time low in a recession that is pinching all of our wallets and public anticipation is at an all time high with a new blue regime ready to take over Washington it is more important now than ever in our nation's history that we don't miss the boat.

This once in a lifetime chance only comes when things get so bad and people are ready to listen.

This chance was given to Germany after WWI when the German people gave into despair and handed the reigns of fanaticism to a fascist dictator that spread his filth of hate throughout the world

This chance was given to the nations of Russia and the France when the radicals decided to overthrow monarchy rule and give the power back to the people.

When I bring up these dark periods of history it is not to fear or scare you into voting for one side or the other but it is to note how history is forever evolving and it's the lowest moments of any countries despair when change happens.

The kind of change our country evolves with is up to the people of her nation. Our forefathers were very careful to create a complicated system that didn't resemble parliamentary or socialistic aspects where one set of prevailing ideas could form a stranglehold of dictatorship. The reason this was done is because our forefathers were students of history themselves and new the irrationality a society could concoct when voting on their own personal despair, race or religion.

Every government with strong One Party Rule needs a conscience…

You may not agree or even be on eye level with this other side but there is something to be said about a document that has been the backbone of our nation for 232 years.

There is nothing strange or wrong with having the audacity to believe that our nation should do more to help the poor or should put together rational plans for more Americans to have the ability of achieving the dream of home ownership nor is there anything wrong with the belief that our government should be fiscally responsible without intruding on the personal lives of Americans who want to remain self sufficient in a sense of small community life.

What's good for Reggie who lives in NYC may not be as good for Joe the Farmer who lives in America's heartland. People may not want to believe it or may think we're trying to divide ourselves as Americans but the divide is real and needs to be respected on a national level.

Respect does not come from one voice being squeezed out of the process when there elected representatives have no say so in the direction of the nation nor does it come from endless gridlock from one side not compromising with the other.

Respect comes when we finally admit that we are a diverse nation and each and every American has there own culture and way of life that should be represented on a national stage.

Some of this may sound like idealism or some may take it as pessimism but they are all things that need to be said. Our corporate media is driven by profits and your approval is the deciding factor for their yearly dividends. By this fact alone I can and will never expect them to be the watch dogs the Constitution entrusted them to be.

To this I call on the voice of Radical Independence…

Radical Independence is having the ability to not let the issues of God & Guns cloud political campaigns into endless partisan quagmires…

Radical Independence is being the voice for our Earth & her animals in which we share the planet with but calling on both parties to make practical decisions on how not to abuse either one…

Radical Independence means making informed decisions about personal health and how our basic decisions impact the hot button issues we complain about on a daily basis in the form of illegal immigration, obesity and animal rights…

Radical Independence means having the same qualification criteria for every political candidate beyond race, sex, religion, who supports them and other outside nonsensical issues…

Until someone can either have the money to self sustain a national campaign against the endless vaults in the DNC and RNC or the American people can finally wake up and realize that the entire system of two party politics is absolute BS, we have to play with the cards that are given to us and with these cards I'll shuffle my deck as a "Radical Independent" each and every time….
