Politics and Culture - American Profiles In Radical Independence

“I do not want my house to be walled in on all sides and my windows to be stuffed. I want the cultures of all the lands to be blown about my house as freely as possible. But I refuse to be blown off my feet by any.” ~ Mahatma Gandhi

When a Movement Becomes Radical

October 16th 2011 13:32
From the beginning of human civilization there have been many cultures that have dared to expand upon the simplest ideas that eventually became the catalyst for systems of government built to work for the citizens they were structured to serve.

It’s the simple idea of a society created by the people and for the people that gave the forefathers of the United States of America many restless nights before it eventually became law in the creation of a nation that would serve as the blueprint for Democratic societies around the globe.

While the idea of freedom may have come from a simple idea; it is the basic nature of human beings that has transformed it into a complex quest.

A quest that began with the idea that all human beings are created equal in the eyes of their creator and with this being so...

Should be guaranteed access to the same opportunities to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness; which has evolved into a society of have’s and have not’s, economic disparity and corporate influence.

When debating the finer points of the Constitution and Bill of Rights; the forefathers of the United States of America were faced with many dilemmas from the violent time in which they lived and ripple effects their decisions were going to have on future generations.

Ripple effects that would come from the institution of an official language, official religion and anything else that could have been used to segregate any particular group or class of people over the course of American history…

With vision far beyond the time in which they lived, the forefathers of the United States of America decided to keep the language of all documents, that would be the foundation of the nation that would eventually be the symbol of the free world, vague to focus on the idea of freedom, opportunity, justice, liberty and the rights of all citizens to pursue happiness in their lives however they saw fit.

It is the right to speak out against the actions of government that was among the most important to the founding fathers.

This is the one of the rights suppressed by the monarchy they fought against to gain independence.

Throughout the course of world history, it has always been the ability of citizens to speak out and have their voices heard that has shaped the course of human history.

When we take the time to look at the revolutions happening in the Middle East and Africa what we see is the idea of Democracy in its most vulnerable form.

Without the media spin, pretty ribbons or stories about heroes that triumphed over evil dictators what we are faced with is the reality of the uncertainty that happens after the fireworks end, the lack of control over the things that fill the vacuum left in un-balanced regions and the in ability to know the benefit that may or may not come from change on the other side of the globe.

While the face of the movement in the Middle East and Africa may lead many citizens of Western Nations to believe that the anger in their part of the world is different than anger in “oppressive” nations; our problems are much the same.

Problems with governments that are no longer able to use the smokescreen of prosperity built on credit and fuzzy math over actions that support the needs of faceless corporations over the needs of the men and women they were elected to serve.

Money has corrupted the simplicity of a society that was created by and for the people.

A problem that is about more than attacking the men and women that are glorified in a society that holds the amount of money a man or woman has in the bank in a higher esteem than the man or woman that does all they can to help their fellow man, woman and child with what little they have.

The movements that hare happening on the streets of America from the Extreme Right and Left has left very little for the people caught in the middle to get involved with.

The spin doctors have been busy working hatchet jobs on every man and woman that has taken a moment from their daily lives to speak out against the powers that have driven the United States of America into the ditch and the forces that continue to do so.

Unlike the revolutions happening in the Middle East, the American public has chosen to demonstrate against the same problem from different sides of the fence.

The problem of the government working against the wishes of the people for powers outside of the electoral system effects each and every American man, woman and child because it comes back to us in the food we eat, water we drink, air we breathe, opportunities to feed our family, our ability to have a roof over our heads and the world we leave for future generations.

Demonstrating against American Citizens that have achieved what society calls the modern “American Dream” of acquiring as much money as you can by any means necessary does nothing for the problem that should be concerning everyone on the planet.

The problem of a broken electoral system that requires candidates to work with monopolized political parties and corporate donors to be competitive is at the heart of every issue raised by both the Tea Party and Occupy Wall Street movement.

The heart, that is being overshadowed by calls to restructure the Constitution outside of the bounds that separate Church and State, Racism, Violence, Attacks on the Rich and Super Rich along with the presence of partisan issues that continue to keep American Citizens from understanding that we’re all in this together.

As long as we live in a society founded on the principles of freedom and every man and woman having the opportunity to start from nothing to become whatever they dream; we will always be a society that has a top and a bottom.

This fact has been true from the very first day that the United States of America declared independence from Great Britain and it will be true on the very last day that we can call ourselves a sovereign nation.

Focusing our energy on taking away the earnings of men and women that worked within the boundaries set by lawmakers is good for making a lot of noise and grabbing television time on the media networks but will do nothing to improve the lives of everyone outside of the top 2%

Our time and energy should be focused on understanding that the jobs will keep disappearing, opportunities will continue to dwindle, our education system will continue to deteriorate and the quality of life will continue to dissipate until we are willing to unite against a common cause.

As long as American Society continues to show its anger from splintered groups the spin doctors and politicians will continue with business as usual by blaming the atrocities being done to the American people on the other side of the aisle.

The other side that will be the one pushing the buttons in the next cycle with the same men and women behind the scenes that caused the mess before.

A movement becomes radical when the people lose sight of the things they are fighting for.

It is the choice of the people to accept the things happening to them or to create change for themselves.

Real Change is never easy because it requires a society to change the way they see, think and understand the things that happening around them.

If the present circumstances aren’t enough to move the people for change it may be too late when things spin too far off track to do anything about it.
