Understanding the Lost Art of Bi-Partisanship and the Imperfect Balance of the Conversation
February 28th 2010 15:17
In a week that reminded us of everything wrong with American government we are forced to return to the conversation.
The conversation about the consequences of grabbing a fire extinguisher long after the flames have burned out and the consequences that come with twisting important issues into partisan arguments.
Partisan arguments that break down to nothing more than finger pointing, name calling and over blown conjecture.
What’s missing in modern conversation is direct dialogue about the meat as opposed to the fluffiness about the potatoes. Fluffiness that is shoved down the throat of opposition and propped up as all important topics to the American people without regard to the voice of reason.
The voice of reason that cautioned against government spending, asked for open door sessions in creating trillion dollar bailouts and health care proposals along with a return to the dream of civility every political party in the minority yearns for.
The state of modern politics in terms of seeking compromise, true change and creating effective policy that make a difference in the lives of Americans has become a joke.
A twisted riddle that plays to the tune of saying all the right things but in action only favors Corporate Entities and Individuals who have the funds to contribute to political campaigns.
With all of these clues in front of our faces that clearly tell us where to point the blame we still allow our fears and carefully placed misperceptions to divert our attention away from the conversation that needs to be had.
The conversation surrounding an inefficient government and the finger of blame that points to both sides of the aisle in the lack of legislation that trickles down to Main Street America.
The same Main Street America that is ground zero for the growing swell of unemployment and the dark future that is quickly approaching when the safety net is pulled out from under them.
A safety net that had holes cut into it this week by a lone Senator who asked the question of how we’re going to be able to afford the price tag that comes with reckless spending.
Reckless spending that is now forced to come face to face with the things needed to directly benefit Americans caught in the middle of partisan tug of war.
A tug of war that puts the important issues on the back burner in favor of CNN Round tables surrounding the hot button issues of the week.
Hot button issues that aren’t going to help Dick or Jane find work, keep business doors open, guarantee that our food is safe, move the world towards a cleaner environment, keep our children clothed or keep families in their homes.
These are the conversations that should happening on Capitol Hill but the Spin Doctors and powers that be decided that the goal of obtaining and protecting Absolute power and shoving Partisan Legislation down the throats of the American people and political rivals was more important than focusing on the simple duties of government.
Simple duties that don’t involve political parties, filibusters or political action committees in figuring out how best to do what’s right for the people…
