Politics and Culture - American Profiles In Radical Independence

“I do not want my house to be walled in on all sides and my windows to be stuffed. I want the cultures of all the lands to be blown about my house as freely as possible. But I refuse to be blown off my feet by any.” ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Re-Defining Independence and the Dangers of Compromising with Wolves in Sheep’s Clothing

May 9th 2010 13:10
In an age of the 24-hour Television News Cycle, Internet News at the click of a button and Politicians deconstructing things that were once thought to be simple arguments; it’s always a good strategy to return to the basics.

The basics where we can re-discover a little thing called commonsense that continuously reminds us of how we’ve been down this road before.

A road of madness with prophets on each side that evolve their speeches with the conversation...

The conversation about everything that fills us with fear, false hope and empty rallying cry’s to further inefficiency and hollow solutions.

We’ve evolved into a reactionary society that waits for big problems to be solved by larger than life elected officials as opposed to the power given to the people.

A process that dates back to the time an unwritten decision was made to only have two sides of the argument rather than a open exchange of ideas.

Two sides of the conversation that have chosen to only display the most radical spectrums of major issues when the people are in need of decisions from the middle of the road.

Between the yelling, obstructionism and shoveling of legislation down the throats of opposition; spin doctors have managed to change the conversation from what our politicians aren’t doing into a finger pointing session that says the blame is purely on one side and not the other.

For support against the side that stands for everything representing our fears we have been rewarded with a crumbling economy, a multi level environmental crisis, an age of war across the globe and a great divide in American society.

A divide where the things that were once celebrated in making us unique as a nation in our differences has become a wedge.

A wedge supportive of a system of inefficiency that continues to repeat itself over and over again no matter how many people are being hurt and dyeing in the process.

Government has become a machine with corporations playing just as big of a role in deciding the future of the American dream as the people the Constitution and Bill of Rights was written for.

When the truth of these things hit the fan a rallying cry was released among the people as they sought change and a new form of Independence.

A call for Independence that came in every open Presidential Debate of yesteryear when there was the one man or woman who stood tall and said the things that needed to be said but was ultimately labeled as unwinnable or outside of mainstream views.

This now silenced voice once stood for reason and caution but has now become a relic of our nations historical past.

A historical past that has been absorbed into mainstream political rhetoric as the big two parties have found a way to dilute the simplicity of Independence and finding a better way for their own strategies of maintaining dominance and delaying the conversation.

The conversation about the same characters who are run out of office for not doing their jobs only to be replaced by a new set of drapes of a different color.

It has been prophesized that there will be a time when a man or woman of an independent mind set will swoop in and save us from the destruction of our own creation.

It is this hope that created the fever around the election of President Barack Obama and will fuel the campaign of the next great political figure.

Prophecy intermingled with aspects of race, the need for independence from a broken system, gender and anger is never a combination that can lead to any sort of long term success or solutions.

The American people are feeling the results of this backlash and will continue to feel it for years to come.

We are now being faced with another moment to repeat the same mistakes or to honestly open our eyes and ears and minds to a new kind of independence outside of the reach of any spin doctor that is looking to further the agenda from either side of the problem.

The problem that was here long before anybody reading this began asking questions and will most likely still be here long after we’re gone.

The quest for answers will never begin until the American people have the courage to seek the truth even if it means doing so from a different point of view.
