Politics and Culture - American Profiles In Radical Independence

“I do not want my house to be walled in on all sides and my windows to be stuffed. I want the cultures of all the lands to be blown about my house as freely as possible. But I refuse to be blown off my feet by any.” ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Running Around in Circles to Find the Same Solutions

June 19th 2011 11:40
After watching last week’s New Hampshire Republican Debate to begin the process of nominating the next man or woman to run for the office of President of the United States of America, under the Republican banner, I am convinced now more than ever that the decision has been made for our nation to continue running around in circles.

A decision representative of all the mistakes that lead to the current disastrous state of the world economy, the nuclear fiasco that is still happening in Japan, a food crisis that is not being met with solutions, a freshwater crisis around the globe and the lack of knowledge among the populous about the depth of the growing mess that is happening under their noses.

A mess that has very little to do with conservative or liberal ideology but has everything to do with the wasted human ability to be faced with a problem and overcome it by using the power of thinking.

A power that has been met with a stiff reliance on the values of men and women on the far right and far left of the big two political parties as opposed to taking into the account the wishes of the men and women that have decided every modern election.

It’s the Independent Voters and the members of the Republican and Democratic Party that lean towards the middle that decide elections but have found themselves without a voice after the candidates are chosen in a process that has become more about popularity as opposed to substance.

What we learned in last week’s Republican Debate was nothing more than a display of everything that is wrong with the political process.

While a few of the right questions may have made it onto the forum for discussion the one’s that needed to be addressed with open and honest answers were either passed over in favor of finger pointing towards the current administration or were given party line answers in favor of loosening government regulations to solve all the problems happening around the globe.

When it comes down to analyzing the issues happening in the economy, food industry and other issues caused by corporations run amok we must look for solutions beyond party rhetoric.

Party rhetoric is the reason for all the problems that exist with the Health Care initiatives shoved through a Democratically Controlled Congress and any initiatives to try and fix the problems in the food and energy industries by throwing away or strengthening regulations will be met with more of the same.

If our political leaders could step off their perches of superiority for five seconds of their political careers to understand how the average American is seeing the world what they would see is a vast amount of solutions from a “common-sense” angle.

An angle that would help the men and women hoping to become the most powerful leader in the free world understand that the policy initiatives passed down from President Ronald Reagan to President George H.W. Bush to President Bill Clinton to President George W. Bush and ultimately to President Barack Obama have all brought us to the same place.

A place where the United States of America is a nation divided upon itself.

Through this division, the people of the United States of America have chosen to turn a blind eye to the actions of their democratically elected represenatives and some members of the populous are beginning to believe that we have reached the point of no return in gaining back the rights granted to each and every American citizen in the United States Constitution.

It’s a sad day when the people of a nation founded on the principles of liberty begin to feel the dreams of their forefathers slipping away because the people elected into positions of power are not acting in the best interests of their constituents.

At this critical point in American history what the people of the United States of America need is a break from candidates that only choose to form policy measures from the missteps of the current administration, a break from candidates that choose fear as a weapon to pull in votes from the radical elements of their party and a break from candidates that refuse to address the most critical problems in our society involving the influence of corporations in the affairs of our health, ability to own property and election process.

While it is my hope that the Republican Party process to select the next man or woman to challenge President Barack Obama will yield new candidates to shake up the obvious nature of the current process my real hope is still for Independent Candidates and elements of the Republican and Democratic Party with sensible solutions for changing to world to step out of the cages they have placed into.

Cages of expectations that will carry what has been reserved for party conversations beyond religion, gun control, fear, abortion, gender and race into a new era where we can work together as a society towards solving the crisis of immigration, reigning in the problems that are happening in the food industry and ensuring that our freshwater supply remains viable for years to come in spite of the free pass given to energy companies.

In this election season it is up to the people to take back the conversation from the media networks that have failed to live up to the rights given to them in the United States Constitution.

Rights that were never about the intelligence level of CNN, MSNBC or FOX News Viewership but has everything to do with the pursuit of truth and the media’s duty to disseminate information from all sides of every important issue.

In the 21st Century the people of the world have been given the gift of access.

Access that is about more than the information controlled mediums of newspaper, television and radio.

It is up to each and every one of us to use these vast resources to stay informed about what these candidates really stand for and the direction they plan to take this country in if elected into office.

Election 2012 is about more than whether the people of the United States of America choose a Republican to continue the recovery process or whether the people choose to stay the course under Democratic leadership in the White House.

Election 2012 has everything to do with the men and women asking for your support and the direction they plan to take a divided nation in.

It is the choice of the people to continue waving the banners of division that has brought despair around the globe or it is the choice of the people to listen to all sides of the issue and be the change the world needs in her most desperate hour.
