Politics and Culture - American Profiles In Radical Independence

“I do not want my house to be walled in on all sides and my windows to be stuffed. I want the cultures of all the lands to be blown about my house as freely as possible. But I refuse to be blown off my feet by any.” ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Separating Fluff and Bull from Facts and Fiction “What’s Important?”

September 28th 2010 13:09
Among the laundry list of things an elected official must take care of is ensuring the safety, health and welfare of the populous and keeping the boat afloat for future generations.

These responsibilities rank highest when it comes to the common sense test of judging the body of work in any government but the United States of America has failed miserably on all counts.

With a failed education system that has become more about teaching our children how to punch bubbles on a standardized test rather than actually learning anything of value and an industrialized meat industry that has been given a free pass to run amock without any real government regulation it is no wonder why most Americans can’t see the big picture.

The big picture about how we have lost our way in favor easy answers rather than holding the men and women who have been trading power back and forth for the past 234 years accountable for their actions.

The thing that bothers me about the articles presented in today’s conversation is that one talks about a blatant problem that is sickening the American public in terms of what an agency of the Federal Government may or may not do about it and the other talks about a backwards attempt to invigorate voters in the final stages of our education system without talking about the issues that will affect them when they enter a broken work force.

What’s at issue in both of these conversations isn’t about holding a Democratic presence or Republican presence accountable but is more about holding ourselves accountable for standing on the side of the road and not protecting our society from getting mugged.

For every Gulf Oil Spill, E-Coli Breakout, Broken School system where administrators push learning to the back door in favor of training the next set of professional standardized test takers and finger pointing session that leads to nowhere we dig ourselves deeper and deeper into a hole of disparity.

Disparity without answers because we choose to spin the wheel in favor of easy answers and schizophrenic decisions to blindly support the cause of the day.

Our cause should be to get America back on track but we can’t do this without support from all sides of the conversation.
