Separating Fluff and Bull from Facts and Fiction “The Election Game”
September 14th 2010 12:22
To fill the quota of stories during an election cycle, major media is always ready to provide the American public with the next great movement.
Movements that are laced with the embodiment of change from the status quo and a new beginning that is “destined” to sweep across the nation.
For every one of these movements is a forced fed discussion filled with double standards poised to paint the conversation about the meaning behind these movements into something their not.
For the Civil Rights Movement spearheaded by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and other pioneers of their generation it was a fearful society that painted them as agitators looking to disrupt the fabric of American culture just as much as it is rumor and innuendo that has painted the modern Tea Party as a racist movement spearheaded by radicals looking to overthrow everything the United States of America stands for in providing equality and justice for all her citizens.
With the election cycle upon us it should come as no surprise that friction within the political parties and animosity against incumbents is grabbing all the headlines rather than the merit each candidate will bring the Congressional House they are running for.
For these media reports about Tea Parties, Independents and a rash of anger against incumbents we are missing the conversation about what these men and women are going to do after the election to fix the messes that have been created from the arrogance and greed of all those who came before.
Being angry about the state our elected officials have left this country in is not enough.
We must seek new ways of vetting candidates beyond loose movements that ultimately bring us back to the same position of anger after the “freedom fighters” turn into the status quo in the months after Election Day.
Candidates’ talking about not taking PAC and Special interest money is turning into the same pitch as the Fast Food Chain marketing strategy of calling their food natural.
Back Doors and Loop Holes have made this a joke that isn’t serving the argument of cleaning up the bureaucracy, pettiness, partisanship and lost opportunities on Capitol Hill any justice.
For every effort that is put forth among the Tea Party Movement and efforts among the candidates to increase their appeal by running as the “anti candidate” it only amounts to a failed sales pitch when it becomes push for or against God, Guns and Religion or transforms into a rallying cry of us vs. them rather than asking the questions that need to be asked.
The questions about why our schools, water supply, food supply, employment structure and economy are in shambles or on the brink of disaster and no one on Capitol Hill is standing up for the people rather than serving their politcal party or own selfish interests.
For every question that is ignored in favor of the next great partisan action the result is and will always be another brick thrown on the fire for the next generation to put out.
What will eventually happen is the fire will consume all of us and not just the people we accuse of being on the right or wrong side of the conversation.
