The Society of “No”
October 17th 2010 12:34
For every society created from the fire and brimstone of war there must also come a time when the “freedom fighters” put down their weapons for the sake of long term prosperity.
Prosperity that would allow great minds to come together in the creation of a contract with the citizens of a young nation embroiled in social turmoil and all those who would walk in their footsteps 234 years later.
While the United States of America is a picture of success in the idea of a nation that supports freedom, opportunity and great ideas it is also a breeding ground for a great de-evolution among the populous.
A de-evolution that has been created from decades of social, political and class warfare between men and women who claim to be fighting for the people in the name of race, religion, gender and country.
A war that has created labels, stereotypes and false expectations for members of the populous who support causes important to the future prosperity of a divided nation and citizens who are doing nothing more than innocently living their lives…
In this age of extremes the American public has become blinded to the reasons why ordinary citizens are taking it upon themselves to exercise their rights in an explosion of anger against the actions of government on both sides of the aisle.
In this anger it has become easier to blindly say no to outside of the box ideas, political candidates and innovative thinking than it is to look them in the face, rationally break down the truths behind the painted veil and come to a decision.
For every pundit who points to the millions of dollars “shock jocks” like Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck garner for their causes of division that pundit must also take a look at the things they are doing to stifle the conversation.
The conversation that is less about the half truths and incendiary accusations these “Shock Jocks” are saying to promote anger among their dedicated following but is more about the things their opponents refuse to acknowledge in the truths between the ramblings.
The truths surrounding the lost voice of the people when it comes to the legislation that is proposed debated and passed on Capitol Hill.
The truths surrounding the reactionary nature of our political leaders when it comes to the health and welfare of the American people.
The truths surrounding the American public’s ability to accept mediocrity and failure so long as it promotes the political candidate or agenda they support.
The truths surrounding the list of priorities in both houses of political leadership and how creating a better system to serve the American people is not at the top of it.
When we put aside all the arguments concerning rampant government spending, a broken education system, lack of oversight in the protection of our food and water supply, escalating national debt with no solutions, the diminishing value of the dollar, federal bailouts, separation of church and state, abortion, gun control, health care, the war on drugs, job creation and stimulation, the foreclosure crisis, the faltering economy, immigration reform, government corruption and the hundreds of other issues that define modern conversation what it all boils down to is a need for the powers that be to drop the endless wars between themselves for the greater good.
The greater good that comes with serving the people rather than promoting age old wars that only result in continuing the cycle of bitterness, anger, strife and excuses for furthering the cycle when power changes hands.
It is not the duty of the media or the government to keep a check on its own powers but is the responsibility of the people.
Blindly saying no to the idea of discussing ideas that come from someone who has a different political mindset with blanket accusations only further erodes the extreme situation that is tearing the United States of America apart.
A division that will be our downfall if we use the idea of a seesaw government to fix the problems created from political wars.
