Separating Fluff and Bull from Facts and Fiction “Sourcing Campaign Funds”
October 12th 2010 12:48
On the “Election 10” campaign trail Vice President Joe Biden brought up an age old question that has been the five hundred pound gorilla sitting in the dark corner of conversations surrounding election reform.
A conversation about the role money plays in the modern election process and the price to pay when the rules are liberalized for the benefit of the few rather than the needs of the many.
While Vice President Biden’s commentary may have been earmarked to rile up a partisan audience in anger towards the memory Karl Rove’s influence in the eight years of the Bush Administration; it still brings up an important point when we dig deeper into the billions of dollars that are raised every year for political candidates and the lack of accessible knowledge for the American Public to honestly understand where the money is coming from.
For every hard and fast rule about limits and transparency there are groups working on ways to circumvent the system in an effort to buy power and influence in federal legislation.
No matter the political affiliation of the candidate or the causes they stand for this is and will always be true
While it is great that Vice President Biden and other candidates looking for election year “fall guys” are injecting these questions into the conversation it still does nothing for the greater problem of doing something about it.
In the search for answers there has to come a point and time when we challenge the representatives of every political party to support change from within the system rather than throwing around accusations to win votes.
When it comes down to asking the hard and fast answer Vice President Biden is absolutely right in the fact that the American people have no way of knowing where the billions of dollars injected into political campaigns are coming from but when we start the treasure hunt we must keep our eyes, ears and minds open to all sides of the conversation to discover a broken a system that has dirty hands from the left, right and everywhere in between.
