Politics and Culture - American Profiles In Radical Independence

“I do not want my house to be walled in on all sides and my windows to be stuffed. I want the cultures of all the lands to be blown about my house as freely as possible. But I refuse to be blown off my feet by any.” ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Digging Deeper in the Fight: An In Depth Look at Team Bras For A Cause and The Awareness Event

August 7th 2009 13:43
I firmly believe that any man's finest hour, the greatest fulfillment of all that he holds dear, is that moment when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle - victorious.

~ Vince Lombardi

When we take a deeper look at world history and the struggle we have had as a race of people to eradicate ignorance, cure diseases and find a higher plane of understanding what you will find are groups of fighters who gave up everything they had in life for the cause of helping their fellow man, woman and child.

For every century there were heroes who stood up for the oppressed, the tired, and the weary along with the people who had no voice for no other reason besides the bare fact that it was the right thing to do.

A few short months ago I made an announcement in this place about a revolution that would change the face of entertainment and philanthropy across the globe.

With three short weeks to go before the formal event kicks off I would like to introduce you to my partners in the cause who are a modern day example of the heroes of yesteryear who gave up everything they had in mind body and soul to help their fellow man, woman and child.

Leading the way in the battle against the disease known as Breast Cancer are five women who are a product of a society that is fighting back against the disease that has already taken away too much.

For decades we have all watched mothers, brothers, fathers, sisters, friends and relatives fall victim to this disease and these women have stories much like the rest of us in losing loved one’s too soon.

It was this inspiration that lead them on a journey to join the cause by signing up to be part of a 60-Mile Walkathon for Susan G. Komen for the Cure and National Philanthropic Trust, funding important breast cancer research, education, screening, and treatment.

The thought of walking 60 miles is a daunting task but the inspiration of helping millions of women and men across the globe through fundraising efforts surmounted any thoughts of physical pain that may come from this arduous journey.

To be part of this Walkathon required set monetary fundraising goals to ensure the event is a success in raising needed funds in the battle against Breast Cancer.

To achieve these goals, this group of women banded together under the name of Team Bras For A Cause and formed fundraising activities by working with local businesses through charity events and raised a total of $8,535.00 towards the final goal of $15,000.00 needed to participate in the October Philadelphia PA Walkathon.

From the first idea of a series of events to help charities reach set goals of raising money for worthy causes it was always my intention to put forth all of my talent and efforts to help groups of people who are doing things to make our world a better place.

The tireless work of this group will be on full display in the Awareness Event Series through Save The Ta Ta’s activities throughout the Fredericksburg Virginia area.

The goals of these events aren’t for any man or woman to achieve notoriety nor are they for any specific person’s monetary gain…

From the very beginning to the sweet end these events will always be about giving the community a chance to do their part to help the cause of eradicating a killer that has no regard for race, gender, religion, political affiliation, socio- economic class or sexual orientation.

Thanks to the work of Team Bras we have the opportunity in front of us to make a huge impact in funding an organization at the forefront of the fight.

The fight to inject knowledge and awareness which are only a few of the weapons desperately needed to win the war.

When we approach these events and dig past the posters, photo shoots, glamour, giveaways, national and local bands the things I want each and every one of you to remember is the good that you will directly be giving to this cause through your participation.

It is our duty to reward you for your philanthropy with all of these things but none of this can be possible without the generosity, compassion and spirit of the human heart that comes out when we band together as a community to take on things bigger than ourselves.
