Politics and Culture - American Profiles In Radical Independence

“I do not want my house to be walled in on all sides and my windows to be stuffed. I want the cultures of all the lands to be blown about my house as freely as possible. But I refuse to be blown off my feet by any.” ~ Mahatma Gandhi

The Story of This, That and the Loss of the Issue

April 4th 2010 13:36
From the very first conversation surrounding the idea of a nation built on the principles of Democracy, Freedom and Individual Liberty there was a conversation about this and that.

This and that which had nothing to do with the end game of how a young nation would achieve these things but simply served as a diversion.

A diversion meant to open the public’s eyes to elements of major issues at hand but was only brought into the room to steer the herd away from the storm.

The storm surrounding the things that need to be fixed in the here and now but have been put on the backburner in favor of settling old scores and what is perceived as scoring political points.

Political points for the extremists and muckrakers who serve as the minority in the American Electorate but gain the most favor in conversation as a mechanism of fear for one side to use against the other...

It is this fear that drives the system of this and that when a topic as important as creating cleaner sources of energy or keeping America safe can suddenly jump to the forefront of conversation in a half attempt to squelch the voice of anger created by government inefficiency and partisan division.

The voice of anger that was looking for a simple conversation two years ago about the best strategy to make the United States of America less dependent on Foreign Oil while also redirecting a destructive lifestyle destroying the environment.

When the time came for conversation the powers that be decided to muddy a simple issue that could have simply began and ended with an all of the above strategy into a political mudslinging with personal jabs.

All of the above in the support of Green Industries, Drilling, Programs for Metro systems to lessen the use of Vehicles in City and Rural Areas along with the creation of new sources of energy.

Two years later with the emergence of opposing party power in 2 out of three branches of the federal government, an American mood of anger from the actions of the controlling party that chose partisanship over common sense and what do we get?

A return to the conversation that could have been handled long before there was any talk of a bailout for failing banks, the auto industry or the partisan Health Care fiasco.

As a world society we have the capability to tackle the toughest issues that come before us.

To do this it is not a matter of the odds being too great or against us nor is it an issue of money.

We continue to beat these odds and prove the cynics wrong when it comes to these things.

The reason why the big issues are not being solved is because of the system that stands before us.

The system that cares more about one side getting ahead of the other rather than using our given talents of conversation and problem solving to reach the end game.

For every time a person asks the question of why we are still dependent on rogue nations for our lifeblood of energy or why the environment is still a mess we need to stop and seriously look over all the facts in the equation before giving the short answer of pointing the finger to the other side.

The messes have been created by all sides and it will not be fixed until we’re willing to admit that it will take all sides coming together for us to dig out of the hole.

While the decision by the Obama Administration to go with the Sarah Palinesque plan of more drilling is a step forward for one side and an act of appeasement for the other; there is not a single person in the conversation who can honestly say that it will help the greater issue.

The greater issue of using all of our resources in this great land to tackle the problems created as a world society in the destruction of the Earth while also helping to make America a safer country.

Two separate issues that can not be solved by a small stab in the dark to change the conversation.

The conversation of the inefficiency of the government process from a lack of choice and why things will never change until the American people take the power back from two sides that have done nothing but prove how the use of fear and lust for power can make both sides ultimately look the same.
