Divided Houses of the United States of America
August 29th 2010 12:36
On the 47 year Anniversary of the speech that spearheaded a movement to bring Americans of every race, religion, ethnicity and political affiliation together the conversation was controlled by the things that are driving us apart.
In what should have been one rally that brought together Americans and World citizens of every race, gender, religion and political affiliation to honor Dr. King the American public was treated to the same divided spirit that was been growing for decades.

Decades of division, as each camp spearheaded by factions of polarization have built fences of misunderstanding in how to get America in a state of recovery from the effects of internal strife.
In one rally organized by media personality Glenn beck it was said America needs to "Turn back to God" and return back to the values it was founded on while the other rally spearheaded by the Reverend Al Sharpton set out to honor the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by vowing to continue the fight for Civil Rights.
At a glance one could say that these rallies were polar opposite from one another by looking at the headlines and bravado.
Headlines that showed a picture of a deep divide in a nation that needs unity.
The kind of unity that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. spoke of was not one where one man or woman’s religion would trump another or a fight for equal rights would lead to an even deeper divide among the populous.
The kind of unity Dr. Martin Luther Jr. spoke of was one where Americans from every walk of life could drop their political agendas, false assumptions and ego’s to come together in celebration about how far this nation has come in the decades since he stood on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial 47 year's ago to deliver the historic “I Have a Dream” speech to the World.
It is a slap to the face of everything this speech stood for to show the true face of Modern America on the one day that we should be working harder than ever to bring it all back together.
On day when we should be honoring the moment where it all turned around in honoring true freedom for all Americans the spotlight was given to the separate camps that made the decision to huddle on their respective sides of the fence in pursuit of moving the nation forward in separate directions.
Separate directions in further dividing a nation that has been forced to deal with political power struggles in every branch of the Federal Government, a slanted media that has left us questioning if the sources we get our news from are factual and a growing anger among the populous that has lead to paranoia, fear and finger pointing.
In the times Dr. King lived the issue of Civil Rights was controversial but it was simple to understand the different sides and what was at stake.
In the modern age of confusion we still have many issues that need to be dealt with but a war of attrition between media personalities and political parties has muddied up the path to getting this done.
Understanding what was said or will be said at a rally and the meaning behind a cause can never be accomplished by simply relying on sound bytes and commentary from media pundits.
To truly understand issues, causes and agendas we must open up our eyes, ears and minds to all sides before coming to a decision of judgment.
Sadly, for most Americans the story of August 28, 2010 was written long before any word was said on stages at either rally.
For some people, the images of Glenn Beck and Al sharpton will always remain the same no matter how much work they do in their respective communities or who they honor.
As long as we continue to judge the things we don’t understand this will remain a nation divided and as a philosopher once said…
