Politics and Culture - American Profiles In Radical Independence

“I do not want my house to be walled in on all sides and my windows to be stuffed. I want the cultures of all the lands to be blown about my house as freely as possible. But I refuse to be blown off my feet by any.” ~ Mahatma Gandhi

The Hypocrisy of the Witch Hunt in American Politics

May 17th 2009 14:59
I'm not an old, experienced hand at politics. But I am now seasoned enough to have learned that the hardest thing about any political campaign is how to win without proving that you are unworthy of winning.

~ Adlai E. Stevenson

In an age of uncertainty that welcomed in the time of “change we can believe in” it’s no surprise to me that the same wheels continue to spin and nobody is paying attention…

The same wheels that brought us the feature screen play of the Bill Clinton impeachment hearings that defined what “sexual relations” really means is the same type of drama that is playing out on Capitol Hill today.

At this point I have to give President Obama credit for his original analysis of what muck racking would cause on Capitol Hill.

I’m sure his foresight warned him of the dangers that come when dirty fingers try to lay the blame squarely at the feet of those they seek to win political points over.

The issue we’re looking at today isn’t about a Presidents decision to go with his gut simply because his original assessments were never met with action.

The discussion today is about what happens when those who would like to appear without sin decide to try and dog pile on those who were perceived to be at the root of all of society’s problems.

Problems with a failed economy, failed infrastructure, wasted money & tactical strategies with invisible wars and even greater divide on Capitol Hill where success is measured by power struggles instead of compromise.

What I see in this situation is a power play that was created by a misunderstanding of what election “08” truly meant to the American people.

The movement created from a simple a message of hope and change to the failed system of government has turned on its head into a partisan free for all.

Pelosi and her Democratic Party power players took this plea from the American people and twisted its intent into a hunting party reminiscent of the Salem Witch Trials.

A witch hunt of an administration that will forever be tainted in our history books for their misdeeds but hold no stake in our current government structure.

One might say that the purpose of this witch hunt is to sort through the mess that was made over the past eight years and repair the image of the United States by holding the people who orchestrated acts of torture to justice but we have to understand that intentions based on political strategy never hit they’re mark.

The hunting party that Pelosi has going is simply about wiping away the Bush legacy regardless of the reasons behind this administrations actions.

Actions to protect the American people from an invisible enemy that was able to cause fear and panic has been wiped away from conversations as the topic turns squarely to bringing a former President to justice for his failures in office.

History teaches us that those who live by the sword will always die by the sword…

Before the media or anybody in the American populous decide to anoint any one figure in the white cape of justice or the cloak of evil we need to ask ourselves about how we pick our hero’s.

Hero’s whose black cloaks and horese’s are dipped in white paint are not the shining examples we should be using to portray whose right and wrong in times of controversy.

The only thing we get when we stand behind the people who yearn for nothing more than throwing stones at their enemies is disappointment and failure.

The same fate that happened to Newt Gingrich and the Republican Congress when they pointed the finger at Bill Clinton for his adulterous affairs and ultimately opened Pandora’s Box to their own sins will happen to Pelosi and her band of Democratic witch hunters.

The thing that the partisan of side of the Democratic majority is failing to understand about our countries current situation is that we’re all in this together.

Members of Congress are briefed about the actions of the CIA, FBI, Covert Operations and Military when it comes to actions of our government leaving no possible way for the Speaker of The House to say to the American people that she was deceived or didn’t know what was going on.

It’s hit the fan and the members of the inquisition are on the run in an every man or woman for themselves atmosphere and the American people still don’t get it…

It doesn’t matter if it’s a Republican witch hunt committee or a merry band of Democrats looking to achieve change through blinding the American people from real issues because it will always end in failure.
The criminals will always get away with mischief because the attention of these self appointed judges of morality isn’t to root out the people that did wrong but is rather a power play to achieve and maintain power.

When we allow these kinds of Shenanigans to dominate the news we take our eyes off the ball.

The mounting rubber band of what happens when a government spends trillions upon trillions of dollars to preserve American automotive ingenuity and it only results in the very thing that we were trying to prevent.

Thousands of automotive dealerships were given the pink slip by the very same companies that accepted tax payer money with the promise of revamping their operations to save American jobs.

We were fire sold into believing that our sacrifice of tax payer money, which could have been directed towards fixing a mounting deficit and debt ledger to China, would benefit us in saving American made institutions as opposed to these companies filing for bankruptcy.

The proof of this is here and the only thing our news cycle can remain fixated on is another politician standing up and lying to the American people to protect her personal witch hunt.

The names, dates and players have changed but we’re still playing the same game...

The game of using the American people as pawns while our political power brokers rack up points through CNN and Fox news polls has to come to an end.

It’s not making us better as a society and it’s not getting us anywhere closer to holding our politicians accountable for their failures and mistakes that are putting us into the desperate depths of debt to nations that don’t share our moral values.

If it brings you some sense of joy to jump on the bandwagon of Bush bashing I want you to remember this moment when the pendulum swings and it’s your chosen representative from the other side whose out of office and the new administration is digging up his or her dirt to discredit a legacy.

I’m sure the response will be about how the government has more important issues to worry about and how it’s ridiculous to hunt after problems that aren’t going to fix the current state of our country…

It’s a two way street and we need to find a point to meet in the middle and move forward with the understanding that every politician on Capitol Hill who worked together on ways to best protect our nation after 9-11 should share the blame equally.

In a year or two, when we look back on this time of fire sale and change where we gave our money away to failed institutions…

I will blame the current Republican Minority just as much as I will shake my fist at the Oval office and Democratic Majority for not doing anything more than whining and chalking up points for future victories.

The time is now for each and every one of us to look inwards and question our leaders on the left, right and everywhere in between.

The McCarthy trials, Clinton Impeachment hearings, Inquisition of the Republican Congress to marital affairs, Drudge of Bush era torture memos in an effort to point the finger and the labeling of politicians as Un-American for not jumping on the band wagon in a rush to war were all simply witch hunts…

Witch hunts are never a good thing for our nation or the American people and have proven to do nothing but hide the real controversies that need to be pulled out from under the rug for the betterment of our society and world.
