The Naked Truth and the Well Dressed Lie
June 5th 2011 14:46
Part of the unspoken agreement that comes with living in an industrialized society is the false expectation that all members must live within a continuous web of lies to shield a closet full of ugly truths.
Lies dressed up in the finest clothes as fabrications about the level of danger citizens living in modern society face on a daily basis and the hollow words from politicians that continue to deliver promises about keeping things the way they are or making things like they were without asking supporters to make crucial sacrifices.
Part of the problem with modern living is the “Head in the Clouds” mentality in the industrialized world that follows the philosophy of circumventing the laws of Mother Nature.
While modern society may have found a way to wipe out the effects of diseases that plagued early civilizations through research and perseverance; our ignorance has done just as much damage to roll back the clock in the creation of new drug resistant bacteria and virus strains from the overuse of antibiotics in our food supply and among society at large.
This coupled with the plague of cancers, diabetes and other diseases that weren’t part of our daily reality in modern society 20-30 years ago must be brought face to face with the full scale change in the way food is processed in the United States of America and the rest of the Industrialized World.
It’s the phrase one step forward and two steps back that explains the delicate place we have found ourselves at as a world society.
While the culture of waste may tell the story of food being in overabundance in some parts of the world we must also think critically as a race of people in consideration of the deep disparity between the have’s and have not.
A disparity that is growing wider by the day because of an unemployment crisis caused by the men and women elected to serve the people of the United States of America.
Representatives, Senators and members of the Executive Branch elected for and by the people of their district, state or nation to put the needs of the men and women that cast their ballots the second Tuesday of every November over the fundraising needs of their political party, promises made to political action committees, the political influence of special interests and the need for a corporation to raise their bottom line at the expense of the American tax payer.
Decisions that lacked forward thinking were the primary reason for the economic collapse and the knee jerk reaction from our political leadership to think that throwing more money at the problem would be the long term solution to fix a broken system.
As Americans from sea to shining sea brace for the next wave of the tsunami that could possibly be the final blow that forces our government leaders to finally understand how deep of a mess we’re truly in each and every person around the globe needs to stop and take a deep breath.
In this deep breath it will hopefully give the people of the free world 5 seconds to imagine what the world is going to look like when the line between the industrialized and third world fades into an unrecognizable blur.
The collapse of financial markets, scarcity of food for the men, women and children not sitting on top of the bubble and a world where the lust for finger pointing is destroyed because we lost it all is closer than most of us care to think.
It is the well dressed lie that is the most dangerous weapon on the planet Earth.
More dangerous than any weapon of mass destruction because of its ability to give comfort to her victims up until the moment that the light is so bright that it can’t be avoided.
Now is the time for the people of the United States of America to crawl out from under their Red and Blue Umbrellas to view the damage that has already been done and the dark path that our political leadership from both sides of the aisle is leading us down.
A dark path that includes a loss of the things we hold most precious in our conveniences, freedom and way of life if action is not taken to put the train back on the tracks before it’s too late.
Our chance to write the story about how the United States of America lead the world in a revolution of thinking to recover from the worst global economic crisis in global history is diminishing by the day.
Our missed opportunities have very little to do with the role of dictators in far off lands and has everything to do with the inability of government leadership to work together for the greater good of the American people.
While our diversity as a society may be one of the things that make the United States of America one of the greatest nations on the planet Earth it is our ability to believe that we live in separate houses that will be our downfall.
In the end, the statement united we stand and divided we fall will be the most important sentence ever uttered because it won’t be the rich that survives on the backs of the poor nor will it be one politcal party that that is able to survive while the other suffers it's demise.
It will be American society as a whole standing together till the bitter end or it will be the separate factions continuing the game of pointing fingers at each other all the way to the bottom of the ocean as the ship sinks around us.

but you offer no insight into a concrete approach to solve the problem...
I read, years ago now, an amazing statement that encapsulated the effect of Western power upon the world, it said;
"The West won the world not by the superiority of its ideas or values or religion but rather by its superiority in applying organized violence. Westerners often forget this fact, non-Westerners never do." -Samuel Huntington, Harvard Professor, "The Clash of Civilizations"
Here are a few more interesting quotes that cause pause to think;
"Capitalism is the astounding belief that the most wickedest of men will do the most wickedest of things for the greatest good of everyone." -John Maynard Keynes, British economist
“... the 20th century has been characterized by three developments of great political importance: The growth of democracy, the growth of corporate power, and the growth of corporate propaganda as a means of protecting corporate power against democracy.” Alex Carey: Australian social scientist, quoted by Noam Chomsky in World Orders Old and New
"I see in the near future a crisis approaching that unnerves me and causes me to tremble for the safety of my country. As a result of war, corporations have been enthroned, and an era of corruption in high places will follow, and the money power of the country will endeavor to prolong its reign by working upon the prejudices of the people until all the wealth is aggregated in a few hands and the republic is destroyed. I feel, at this moment, more anxiety for the safety of my country than ever before, even in the midst of war. God grant that my suspicions may prove groundless." Lincoln in a letter to Col. William F. Elkins on November 21, 1864
"The government, which was designed for the people, has got into the hands of the bosses and their employers, the special interests. An invisible empire has been set up above the forms of democracy." Woodrow T. Wilson (American 28th President of the United States 1856-1924)
interesting insights eh?

You are absolutely correct in stating that I offered no concrete solutions.
In my 5 years of writing this blog it has never been my intention to be a "Solution Man" nor has it ever been my intention to be anointed the title of "Smartest Man in the Room"
The problem with modern society has everything to do with the lust for men and women that can come up with solutions in one sentence or less as opposed to the proven effectiveness of laying the facts out on the table and arriving at sensible solutions that work for the entire world community.
With each and every word I type it is my expressed goal to break the glass ceiling the corporate media, political parties and secret societies have placed over the truth everyone is whispering about but no one is willing to take on in an open public forum for everyone around the world to see.
The time has come for all the things that have been labeled as the fantasies of conspiracy theorists to come to the light of day and most of the people around the world aren't ready to face the inevitable truth.
The one concrete solution I can give in this conversation is for the people around the world who have the ability to elect their leaders to do so wisely.
To select the best man or women for the job not because of their gender, race, celebrity status, religion or stature within a political party but because of the things they stand for and will do to help move the ship away from the iceberg.
The people of the world still possess the power to direct their elected representatives through votes but can only do so if they choose to break the vicious cycle that has been formed by the status quo.

the problem with your utopian ideal, that the public elect people of conscience, is our Western system is dictated by (usually) just two powerful parties, and these parties only take on those who will continue their party policy line, eg The Republicans and the Democrats in America, and in Oz, Liberals and Labor, although the Greens have made a place for themselves since the last election here.
I am all for electing someone of conscience, but they are never a part of the powerful parties, they stand as independants, which is fine, but that produces another problem, they can hold the balance of power, which is what has happened in Australia, so an individual can dictate what the country does, or does not do.
We live in times that are extremely dangerous, the big media suppress the truth at the behest of powerful corporations and their subservient and owned government figures, and we are fed a constant diet of fear, suspicion and hatred, devoid of forgiveness, understanding or compassion.
I am extremely pessimistic that people of conscience can overturn what has befallen the West.

The unregulated medium of the internet has allowed voices that have been suppressed by the corporately controlled media and political party powers to be heard.
This has also allowed the opportunity for Independent candidates and disenfranchised political party members to have their messages heard through unfiltered vehicles.
The only question is whether the men and women we need to stand up for the people are willing to do so or if we are going to simply throw our hands up in the air and say it is impossible.
I am more on the side of using all the tools at my disposal to spread unfiltered truths no matter how uncomfortable they make us feel and forming open discussions about the forces that stand against progress and the dangers that are to come if we remain closed minded to the real solutions that are on the table.
Solutions that are about more than being angry at a system that has been and will always be left open for change as long as societies remain free through the right to vote where the power has been and will always be in the hands of the people if they are willing to use it.

Look at Iraq and Afghanistan, the West went in there to 'help' the people become democratic and Westernised...not really, the USA and Britain etc like dealing with a despot, it's easier to get what they want, but Saddam Hussein got too big for his boots, so they toppled him, and not for political and social ideals, but for corporate control of primary oil sources.
I rage against the 'machine' occasionally, on my other blog, infognito.net, but who reads it?
Very few people.
And now the big corporates control the search engines, and so blogs can be banned if they are considered 'adult' in nature, such as using swear words.
Soon enough blogs will be banned if they express ideas which the corporate owners do not agree with.
Our lives are becoming even more controlled than life under the NAZI regime, albeit a lot more subtle, with fascism dressed up as government and corporate public conscience, restricting our rights, and increasing their right to spy on everyone. the very thing my father fought against in WW2.
So, no, I do not accept your stance easily, I find it optimistic and a little naive, but then, I am also heartened that there is someone out there who is not as cynical and jaded as myself.

In the figthing spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Susan B. Anthony, Mahatma Gandhi
The Dalai Lama and every other man, woman and child who found themselves fighting against “the impossible” I refuse to accept this word as fact.
It has become clear that you find the situation with a corporately controlled media, governments making decisions for the people that finance their political future instead of the citizens that elect them into office and a growing sense of powerlessness as something that is impossible to change.
To this and the arguments you made in your last post; I say that the change we need must come from the way we choose to make a difference and not from expecting the powers that be to suddenly change course from multiple decades of bad decisions.
It is not enough to allow an important message to the people of the world to be blocked by filters “because of what we think” is our right to use curse words or to say that a message will not be heard because we have no choice but to rely on the corporations that are destroying the planet to finance their own demise.
Both of these arguments can be circumvented by the simple action of thinking outside of the boxes that have been set up for anyone who speaks out against the system to fail.
I understand your pessimism.
When we take an honest look at the big picture of wars being fought for oil money, a food industry run amok with the government openly allowing the use of pesticides, chemicals, hormones, steroids, antibiotics, animal abuse on farms and the shoddy production of meat products fear has to be first reaction.
Fear of a system that is connected with the financing of the big two political parties in the United States of America, the financial life blood of major media in both print and broadcast along with the false message of everything being OK and anyone who speaks out against the system labeled as a conspiracy theorist or societal disruptor.
Even with the downfall of print media and decline of radio and television influence from more and more world citizens turning to the internet and social media for news and information there is no one on the planet that could possibly think that the tide is anywhere close to turning.
Contrary to your assertions of me being naive I agree with and understand all the arguments you have continually presented to fuel your pessimism but I am not ready to declare the current climate of greed and depravity as an any man or woman for him or herself situation.
What I am prepared to do is work on an individual level by using the tools at my disposal to reach out to as broad of an audience as possible to spread the word about the things happening in the world and the dangers that are to come if the human race does not change the way we choose our leadership.
It is only with the spread of knowledge that we can begin to fight back against a system that seems invincible.
For me, the word impossible has never been something that has instilled the fear that allows some people to believe that they can't do their part to help their fellow man.
The minute we fall into the comfortable slumber of feeling incapable of doing anything on an individual level is also the minute that we have lost the war.
I applaud you for all the work you have done and continue to do by seeking out and spreading knowledge about all the things happening behind the curtain of invisibility.
It doesn’t matter if your blogs are reaching 5, 10, 50 ,5,000 or 100,00 people so long as it is reaching an audience that is ready to begin breaking the stranglehold of traditional media powers by inciting action among the public.
It’s not our ability to instantly create an audience the size of a television or radio network that will be the spark in a haystack to create a fire around the globe but it will be our ability to not quit or give into the pessimism that tells us it is impossible to bring down the systems that continue to place the lust for money above the welfare of our fellow man.
