Politics and Culture - American Profiles In Radical Independence

“I do not want my house to be walled in on all sides and my windows to be stuffed. I want the cultures of all the lands to be blown about my house as freely as possible. But I refuse to be blown off my feet by any.” ~ Mahatma Gandhi

The Face of Revolution in the 21st Century

August 15th 2010 12:38
Revolution is one of many words in the dictionary that can be left up to interpretation.

In its basic meaning, revolution is a change from one thing to another.

The very thought of this can bring simultaneous emotions of hope, joy or sadness to the hearts of millions depending on which side of the revolution an individual is on.

The radical notion of revolution can strike fear into the hearts of the men and women pleased with the status quo.

The status quo that helps them sleep better at night with the belief that everything will be ok so long as full faith is put into one of the two houses that will protect the rights we are told the other side is trying to take away.

Revolution is happening before our eyes.

A revolution that will not be fought with weapons or an overthrow of government but one that will be fought with the lost power of thinking.

The power of thinking that separates humans from the rest of the animal kingdom and is instilled in the heart of the American Spirit to stand up for the rights of our fellow man and the planet that nurtures life.

The power of thought that is fueling the wave of Independent voters that are changing the rules of the game that has been played for 234 years.

The power that is in each and every one of us if we would only take the time to listen to both sides of the issue for nothing more than the two seconds that it takes to build up our fences of comfort ability.

For every revolution there are at least two sides in conflict.

One side that has the power and the other side that wants to be in their place.

In the 21st century, the power structure is the mind set of the millions who believe in these opposing forces that are creating divided houses in race, culture, gender, sexual orientation, religion and socio-economic class.

From these divisions, the battle lines have been drawn between the two major political parties which have allowed spin doctors to pull the puppet strings in saying that if you fall onto one side of the fence or the other you “should” follow this and if you fall onto the other you “should” follow that.

The modern revolution is a war against the basic thinking that has been allowed to progress into a powder keg society that is willing to explode over the most trivial issues.

Trivial issues that have diverted our valuable attention away from the disasters that are happening in our own backyards with a crumbled economy, growing deficit, destroyed systems of drinking water, environmental disasters that happened because of a lack of government oversight, a tainted food supply, social divisions and a loss of control in the actions of our government officials.

Of all these issues, the most important is the loss of accountability that has occurred in the sacred grounds of the Oval Office and both Houses of Congress.

Scandal has become common place among our Elected Officials and the American People have left it up to the wolves to regulate the things happening in the Hen House.

The only screams that ever occur among the populous are partisan in nature which only leaves the average citizen to beg the question.

The question of whether the majority of Americans who are still following the idols of political leaders built into larger than life rock stars and the powder puff agendas of our political parties truly understand the dangers that are here and the things that are to come.

Some said the internet would be the dynamite that sparked the revolution while others looked towards the Tea Party Movement that was built from the embers of anger towards the actions of the current administrations in Congress and the Oval Office.

Both movements have been pinned into their boxes for lack of integrity and the problems that come from loose networks but this will not be the end of the conversation.

The conversation where the American people of every political affiliation, religious belief, sexual orientation, race and gender can finally crawl from their underground bunkers to admit the fragile state we have boxed ourselves into from division and supporting broken systems.

It’s been said that when the cat is away the mice will play…

The fiercest cat on the planet is the American People when they have been invigorated to stand behind a cause and their nation.

The Spin Doctors know this and it is for this reason that the major political parties have spent billions of dollars trying to distract the people from the most important issues affecting their country and health.

As long as our eyes are off the ball the mice who are represented by special interests, corporations who are only interested in the bottom line and politicians who continue to hide behind their party banners while raiding the cookie jar will run the show.

The show that should be about our elected officials making decisions that are best for the greater good but is about anything but that in the current volatile climate we have created for ourselves.
