The Double Standard of the Movement

In the words of a great modern day philosopher “Here we go again”.
Back on the political carousel that takes our society further away from the fundamentals that bring us all together as Americans.
Fundamentals that go beyond any political party, philosophy or doctrine and digs into our basic rights as human beings to live our lives as we see fit in the pursuit of life, liberty and happiness.
On paper these words sound like an easy thing for everyone in world society to agree upon.
Easy to imagine a world where everyone has the right to fall in love with whomever they see fit no matter the color of their skin, religion or sexual orientation.
Easy to imagine being judged for our character and the skills we bring into the workplace and not the decisions we make in our personal lives as to whom we decided to share social bonds with.
Easy to imagine a world where fair and just aren't terms that are twisted and distorted for any one man or woman’s political gain.
The backlash that is occurring from a government run amuck is ugly and deep rooted in the thinking of the past.
Thinking that allowed society to believe that labeling a certain segment of the population as different or outside of the norm made it justifiable to take away their rights.
Rights to have the same protection from discrimination in hiring, educational opportunities and career advancement…
The attempts by the Virginia Legislature to rewrite the documents that serve as symbols of how we have moved forward as a society went well beyond any simple call to action from any Tea Parties.
Calls to action that are now mired by splintered movements to push social ideology and drive us further away from the original outcry against government policies the majority of the American people were against.
For every time the American people get a chance to move forward on an issue or breathe new life into the legislature we are given a mixed bag.
A mixed bag filled with a bunch of junk that will only tear our society apart.
As demonstrated from the mess on Capitol Hill this mixed bag of junk has resulted in the destruction of legislation that could have helped millions of Americans but is now destined for the land of pointed fingers as each side tries to blame the other for Congress and the Oval Office missing the mark.
The mark that should remind each and every elected official of why they have the privilege to serve the American people and their duty to serve the needs of all Americans and not just the radical sections that have made it their mission to drive the conversation to one radical side or the other.
This could be a point for me to rage, rant or cry about the ineffectiveness of a modern government that is run more on money than the ideas brought to the people in political campaigns but this would only be an act of nihilism.
An act of nihilism that will be twisted and turned by the next Democratic or Republican candidate who claims to come from Independent roots but will only acquiesce to the power of the far right or far left in the pursuit of small ideas.
Small ideas that are far outside the thinking of the average American and the will of the people who would rather have legislation passed to create jobs on the local and national level as opposed to witch hunts that drive us further apart as society.
When we look at the entire issue as opposed the affect someone else’s happiness has on our personal bubble what we are left with is a diverse nation of men and women all striving for the same thing.
That thing isn’t domination of one political ideal over the other nor is it for one side of the issue to dominate the other in a power struggle.
What each and every American wants is a piece of the American Dream and a fair playing field for us to achieve personal and professional goals.
The day our politicians can remember these things after taking the oath of office will be the day that we finally get closer to putting the train back on the tracks as a nation and world society.
