Politics and Culture - American Profiles In Radical Independence

“I do not want my house to be walled in on all sides and my windows to be stuffed. I want the cultures of all the lands to be blown about my house as freely as possible. But I refuse to be blown off my feet by any.” ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Bringing it all Together: The Story of How a Radical Independent Found his State of Awareness

December 13th 2009 15:46
On June 25th of 2009 a call to action was made.

A call to action to enlist the very best in entertainment, rally communities across the nation and ask for the support of the people in helping Philanthropic Organizations reach important goals.

Important goals of eradicating diseases like Breast Cancer, helping our fellow man get through tough times by rallying donations of food and money along with forming systems of direct action for local citizens in need of support.

In order to understand the State of Awareness that brought about the series of events that encompassed Awareness Event 2009 you have to understand the story behind the cause.

The story of a man who made the toughest decision of his life in leaving behind loved ones and a business to join the United States Army.

The decision that was supposed to help move the things he built forward but ultimately sent him back ten paces in life.

Ten paces back with what became a 10% disability rating that was not addressed by the military hierarchy before being sent back to his Reserve Unit and how he is still fighting today as 20% disabled veteran.

With limited choices, the goal of survival was key and achievable with the generosity of family and employment was eventually gained.

Employment that had him in daily pain from a job he should have been protected from had the military honored their part of the contract in taking care of a soldier’s medical needs before releasing him back to the world in worse shape than he was when he enlisted.

Employment with this company came to halt in January of 2009 from the result of a slip and fall on a wintry morning.

A slip and fall that now made it an issue to sit for periods of time as well as stand.

After months upon months of fighting back and forth with indemnity payments, physical therapy and doctors notes; the decision was made to place lesser relevance on a determination of my injuries to falling in line with company policy as far as time not worked as opposed to whether or not I was physically able to perform the duties of the job I was assigned and my physical condition before and after employment.

Forced into a corner and not finding anything broken or torn on a graph or scan; my doctor released me from his care and opened Pandora’s Box for my former employer to use this as a reason for me to return to work regardless of my countless verbal statements of the pain I was going through on a daily basis or the permanent military injury, with limitations, that I notified them about upon employment and the disability rating I received while working for the company.

It was eventually written that I refused to come back to work and quit which ended my physical therapy and medical treatments as well as my indemnity payments which was the life blood of my survival with not being able to function in the most basic job.

The one fortunate thing about all this is that it gave me the current medical evidence needed to push forward with Veterans Affairs for my need of Education Benefits, turn to my Congressman for help with my military release and also opened up time for me to think about the future.

The future without the hassle of fighting on a daily basis to gain some kind of support for injuries that happened during various employment endeavors.

Employment endeavors labeled as service to my country and the fruits that come when problems are pushed to the backburner in favor of expediency.

When I reflect back on all of the problems in my civilian and military life I have no choice but to reflect on the phrase which states that everything happens for a reason.

If it were not for the flaws of my military leaders I would have never found my voice of Radical Independence which eventually led to my Ultimate State of Awareness.

A State of Awareness that occurs only when a man or woman has been dragged to the lower depths of survival and has no choice but to see life for what it really is….

Life beyond the glitz, glamour and catch phrases of what we should or ought to be.

Life beyond the political double speak and folklore that tells us how we should think, act or vote based on the color of our skin or gender.

Life beyond the social boxes of expectations as we search for our own personal state of Radical Independence.

It was through my rejection of all of these things that a journey began to do something more than soak in unemployment and indemnity payments while simply complaining about the actions of an ineffective government and apply my words to action.

Action in bringing together the money and attention from the entertainment world with the needs of philanthropic organizations who have dedicated their lives to helping worthy causes.

Worthy causes to help our fellow man, woman and child through tough times and while also helping to find cures for diseases that have no cure.

What began as an idealistic dream born from the fruits of my frustration has blossomed into a cause that has raised over $6,000.00 on the grassroots level in five short months for worthy causes.

Worthy causes that now have money that would have been used for monetary gain...

To help people get needed treatments for Breast Cancer, help a child’s wish come true, help families of farmers through medical misfortune and help feed a family during the holiday season who has lost their home.

It is only when we reach our lowest points in life when we truly find out what we are made of.

From the very beginning of my struggle, I’ve always felt there was something more to what I was going through than to simply be bitter and angry and wait for my payday.

Through this struggle, it is my sincere hope that I can use my talents and skill to further benefit the life of my fellow man, woman and child.

Without an ego or a search for monetary gain on the back end I am proud to say I was part of this cause.

A cause created to bring together helping hands to solve some of life’s toughest problems through direct action.

While this cause may have begun in the year 2009 it is not going to be the place where it ends.

There is still a lot of work that needs to be done and I will need your help to carry this movement to the places where I envision it to be.

What began as a local call to action will now begin to move beyond the borders of the town I call home.

Plans are already in place for this to happen but I will need for this movement to become about more than me for this to become a reality.

The second phase of the call to action begins now as I am reaching out to everyone who owns or is involved in a business who is seeking to become involved in a radically innovative movement that will help worthy causes across the globe.

College students, member of the restaurant and bar industry, average citizens, prominent citizens, politicians….

This movement is calling your name and I am hoping you will answer the call when the opportunity comes to be a part of the cause to simply help.
