Remembering the Voice of Dissent in a Black and White Society of Simple Answers

We have made mistakes. In our haste to do all things for all people, we did not foresee the full consequences of our actions. And when the people raised their voices, we didn't hear. But our deafness was only a temporary condition, and not an irreversible condition.

In today’s conversation I want to focus on one of the voices in modern society…
When I mention the word “focus” my intent isn’t to zone in on the one voice of any specific race, religion, political party or social cause but is to search for the sweet and silent voice that is missing from the conversation in today’s loud society.
The voice that has been historically squelched, suppressed, tortured, laughed at and ignored by the juggernaut of popular opinion.
The voice that has embraced every nation state, political ideal, revolution, race, religion, gender, political affiliation or sexual orientation at one point or another throughout time and has also been the spear head for social change on all seven continents and every society this Earth has ever spawned.
This sound that comes from the hearts and minds of the common man rather than mob rule is the voice of dissent.
The very same voice that filled the spirit of every explorer who followed their intuition in believing there was more to the world than the continent in which they were born has also been the voice of reason that warned against every war and social conflict in world history.
Atrocities of human nature in the form of the Holocaust, slave trade in its many international forms, human trafficking, the Civil Rights movement here in the US & South Africa, and genocide all occurred because societies decided it was easier to squelch the voice of dissent and reason in the name of religion, society, country or playing the game of follow the inspirational leader rather than finding the true root of society’s problems.
We read these stories and watch history repeat itself over and over again but continue to lead our daily lives ignoring this consistent storm that continues to remind us of the dangers that come when we don’t listen to the elements of society that try to keep us informed.
From the guy standing on the street corner with a sign calling for the end of the world because of the way our society has chosen to live to the underground reporters who told us that cigarette smoking leads to a life of addiction and ultimately death….
The voice of dissent has been and always will be a strong part of our society.
Strength doesn’t always equal power and it is our choice to process this information for the betterment of our lives rather than playing the game of “I’m not listening” when the warning comes to our homes.
The philosophy of modern society has evolved into one that believes we have outgrown our roots of self sufficiency in an embrace of the industrial age for all aspects of our daily lives.
We have been warned of this poisonous embrace through our culture of music, books and movies but have chosen not to apply these warnings until it slaps us in the face.
The choice made for most Americans on a daily basis is to chalk these warnings up to fantasy and discount rumor and innuendo as complete error in fact instead of digging deeper to discover the truth at the heart of the fantasy.
The deeper truth in every 9-11or terror conspiracy about America’s inability to have a free society and protect ourselves from faceless enemies without giving up a piece of ourselves.
The truth in the fact of having destroyed our oceans, land, earth and the commodities for sustaining life on this planet by giving our society away to industrialization.
The truth in the boom of diseases that have accompanied our ascension into a modern society and correlating the affects of these changes with the way we live, what we eat and the modern easy access life style.
When we turn to scientists and doctors to give us a simple answer of whether a rumor is true or untrue we lose sight of why these fantasies are created in the first place.
The reason these conspiracy theories are created in today’s age is the very same reason they were created in the times that the Bible, Koran and Torah were written…
They were created to understand why things of an unexplainable nature happen and to ultimately help better understand our world through conversation.
If there’s one thing we have lost with modernization it’s within the fact that we have put curiosity on the back burner for the simple answer.
We let the media of simplicity be our Curious George or Heathcliffe as we tune in for a half hour show to get all of the answers missing in the big picture.
In every story of a dictator gaining power or a government not acting for the will of the people the first chapters begin with a public giving up their instincts to find answers for themselves.
We are coming dangerously close to this in our country and the proof lies in the dark times we are experiencing in today’s society.
To see the light we need to raise the volume on the voice of dissent in American society and start listening when people give us crazy ideas of America coming under attack by way of planes being used as missiles.
The link between cigarettes and a host of diseases and addiction…
The link between steroids being used on farm animals in our food supply to the rise in cancer cases over the past three decades.
The dangers of giving away our money and prosperity to to help companies that that will only use it to rake in record dividends.
The dirty hands of our politicians we raise up as modern day heroes from both sides of the aisle that are causing our country and her people undo harm.
Legislation that is being proposed and passed on Capitol Hill for the benefit of political donors and lobbyists rather than helping a single American citizen and the many other topics that are disregarded in total as conspiracy theories rather than the voice of reason in a society gone mad.
