Politics and Culture - American Profiles In Radical Independence

“I do not want my house to be walled in on all sides and my windows to be stuffed. I want the cultures of all the lands to be blown about my house as freely as possible. But I refuse to be blown off my feet by any.” ~ Mahatma Gandhi

The Confusion of Twisting the Basics

November 14th 2010 14:04
On the journey to getting America back on the right path it’s been said that a country once known for its streets paved with gold, endless amounts of prosperity and the image of everything other nations should aspire to be needs to return to the basics.

The basics that come when government works for the people, business is given an opportunity to do what it does best, government is careful to protect the rights of all her citizens without infringing on the rights of others and every decision made in all three branches of the Federal Government is made for and by the people of the United States of America.

These are the basics that draw us to rally against or support political and social causes that come from the people and also serve as fuel to the fire when we allow ourselves to fall into the trap of chasing after twisted truths.

The twisted truths that come when men and women enter the conversation with the banner of returning America back to prosperity by using one or all of these fundamentals to rally public support but ultimately leave a trail of damage and destruction so deep that it prevents us from reaching our destination.

The destination that is reached when every American man and woman is willing to come face to face with a simple truth.

The simple truth that has nothing to do with the gloom and doom that comes from the warnings of the things that can and will happen if one side or a single man or woman is given absolute power or fear of the things that happen when our governmental bodies reach a point of gridlock.

The simple truth is fear from the reality each and every citizen is facing and the fear each and American has inside of themselves when thinking of the dark picture that is glaring back at us from the situation that is happening on the streets of America.

When face to face with this truth, what we will gain is an understanding of how finding solutions to our problems will not be as simple as blindly supporting business or running in fear from the shadowy figures dedicated to taking away or keeping us from the rights guaranteed in the United States Constitution and Bill of Rights.

Every society needs balance to operate properly and keep a sense of calm among the populous.

A sense of calm that will bring down the loud screams that come with the yelling and will give a society blinded with outrage a chance to catch up on the things that have been happening behind our backs while we were fighting amongst ourselves.

While fights that are destined to go nowhere have soaked in the glaring spotlight in “Reality TV” style documentation; American society has slowly degraded into a culture where we expect our political leaders and media to provide us with the answers.

Answers that will eventually fill the pages of history books that will look back on a society that gave it all away to corporations and special interests playing both sides of a divided nation that was too busy highlighting the things that make us different instead of the things that make us the same.

Highlights that play on our fears of a religious war, racial strife, social wars and the rights of equality that some are still fighting for on a daily basis.

For some of these issues the answers are simple if given a chance to be addressed in an open forum that allows both sides to let their voices be heard.

For other parts of these hot button issues that are at the forefront of the invisible divide in modern America there will never be a true consensus among the populous or a decision agreed upon by elected officials that will make everyone happy.

For these issues, we need an uneasy peace of agreeing to disagree in an effort to tackle the problems piling up at our doorsteps that begin and end with giving the power to protect the food we feed our children, the power to protect the water in our oceans and faucets, the power to protect the air we breathe and the power to protect the land we call home from the outside forces who have bought influence on Capitol Hill and White House in the decisions made on the behalf of the American people.

Decisions that will affect the future prosperity of a nation that is on the brink of the next great catastrophe because of the power of greed and influence amongst the populous and the houses of government.

When the next great political cause asks you to “Stand up for America” or uses the word “Un-Patriotic” to get a point across it is important for each and every American to remember the true definition of what it means to be a patriot.

Patriotism begins with the idea of protecting an entire homeland and not just the select few we choose to agree with or those who follow our particular belief set.

To be a true patriot we must look beyond our “social box” to the big picture that will bring us face to face with the real dangers that have already taken over control of the things happening in our daily lives.
