Politics and Culture - American Profiles In Radical Independence

“I do not want my house to be walled in on all sides and my windows to be stuffed. I want the cultures of all the lands to be blown about my house as freely as possible. But I refuse to be blown off my feet by any.” ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Back to the Basics: Understanding the Need for Independence in a Radical World

August 17th 2009 12:59
When the world moves at extreme paces the call for Independence always comes from the hearts and minds of the citizens at the forefront of the fight for change.

A fight that doesn’t originate from any particular society or state of higher consciousness but is rather the evolution of things that happen when society stops moving forward with new ideas to improve on the mile markers that were set in yesteryear.

The call for new ideas isn’t an original thought that is being thrown into the conversation.

Every cause begins with new ideas to better society and these motions of forward thinking can resemble wolves in waiting when they enter the conversation through Double- Speak and Hidden Agendas.

Hidden agendas meant to divide a nation built by citizens from every corner of the globe.

The thought of this accomplishment should be a sense of pride for every American but has turned into an albatross around the neck of our opportunities to understand why we fight.

An albatross that would rather form conversations that prey on our worst fears from both sides of the discussion instead of encouraging forward thought in finding a way for us to live together as American citizens.

With the formation of a more imperfect union also came the creation of a great divide…

A great divide that lead to debate between our forefathers of how to create and sustain the prosperity of a new nation.

A debate that grew teeth as the idea of states rights battled head to head with the aspect of creating a system of government that legislated from the very top.

A simple difference of opinion that was compromised in the formation of our Constitution lead to bloody battlefields across our young nation which is the destiny of any revolution that begins with blood shed.

The great divide in this nation did not come from the original argument of Federalism vs. States Rights nor did it come from the rebellion that originated when political problems could not be worked out in the Halls of Capitol Hill or the Oval Office.

Our problems came when we lost the things that brought us together in debate and chose to form conversations in extreme measures instead of discovering the things that will work best for all Americans.

Things like finding a way to get Americans back to work again, fixing the economy, protecting our nation from men and women who would love nothing better than to destroy our way of life and creating a better system of medical care have all been turned into contentious political battles that aren’t getting us anywhere.

When things reach a fever pitch in any system of government there’s a time when we can chuckle and invoke the famous words of Rodney King in saying “Can’t we all just get along” and there is also a point and time for us to find a new kind of Independence.

An Independence that gives us the freedom to call a spade a spade when speeches of hope and change turn into political rallies of Us vs. Them politics.

An Independence that gives us the clear understanding of the dangers that exist in a Radical world and the power we have within us to not get wrapped up in the gloom and doom fear game.

An Independence that allows the open thought to understand the need to return back to our roots in rejection of the common knowledge and social dogma that creeps into the conversation in the search for simple answers.

This same social dogma was responsible for the parade of simple ideas that allowed the slave trade to continue in a nation built on the ambers of freedom, allowed the powers that be to hold women to a sub standard position in society and set forth legal measures that said ethnic integrity was more important than the words “All Men are Created Equal”.

An Independence that throws a grenade into the social boxes of expectations that allows our society to believe a man or woman of a certain race or ethnicity “should” act or talk a certain way or that love should only exist within certain groups between people of the same race, religion, ethincity or sex.

When the world backs us into a corner that tells us we have no choice but to fall into one of two camps of radical ideals the only option we are left with is a rejection of both forms of thought.

A rejection of the Double-Speak that occurs when the American people were lead astray into believing that “Change” could come in a voting booth or that change could come from a man who said it was his mission to clean up unfinished business, be an agent of togetherness and bring morality back to the Oval Office.

When we do all these things we come to a place of Radical Independence that looks deeper into the conversation without the partisan glasses that will be quick to blame the other side for all the social ills that exist in the world.

Social ills that come from the recklessness of both sides when the American people stopped asking questions and turned our politicians into Super Heroes or Reality TV icons with no regard into holding each and every one of them to the same standards on an individual level.

If you ask the average American a list of the worst Presidents a response will be sure to follow.

A response created from life experiences that existed in a time capsule where each and every man who sat in the Oval Office had to make decisions based on the climate of the world and the nation in which he was elected to serve.

Some may be positive in the view of a president who served his term in a time of peace while some may be negative in the memory of lost lives or domestic turmoil under one man’s watch that may not have occurred under another’s.

The decisions made by Presidents and our Congressional Representatives are and never will be easy but we must dig deeper into understanding why things are the way they are without the finger pointing or blame in the search for a better way.

A better way that will lay the ground work on important issues like fixing the environment without politicizing the issue, creating a safer country and world for our children and the families they will raise in future generations, getting a better grip on the problems in our education system and ultimately finding the place of understanding instead of fanning the flames of hatred along partisan, gender, racial, religious and lines of sexual orientation.

That's why I come on here week to week and I think you've discovered the essence of my formula.

I'm looking forward to bringing you more conversations each and every Sunday and am also looking forward to hearing more of your insight...
