Winners and Losers in the Game of Perception
September 27th 2009 16:21
From the beginning of time a game has been played on the landscape of this great planet. A game that has crowned members of our world society as Kings or Queens while striking down others to lives of serfdom and enslavement.
This game of perception is the same ring around the rosie that is played for every time a man or woman rises up to take their place on the mantle of national consciousness and stakes their claim to being the guru of all the things in society.
From Michael Jackson to OJ Simpson all the way up to the state and local level public servants who decide on the future direction of our nation, the game is played on a daily basis which leaves us to ask the question.
The question that revolves around the realities of a world that is filled with shadowy figures who would gladly manipulate the laws of religion and human decency for the gain of power or a misguided notion of returning back to the fundamentals.
The fundamentals that exist in every utopian ideal where belief in religious principals or dogma surmounts all aspects of the basic ideals that exist in the pieces of literature that are held so close to their hearts.
As Americans we took our eyes off the ball when it came to these realities while the parade of guilty until proven innocent and the rich being able to pay their way around the law took center stage.
9/11 struck fear into the hearts of each and every American in the months following tragedy where it was apparent that we were stronger as a nation than even the staunchest cynic could have ever thought to be possible.
The things that happened after the tragedies in New York and Washington DC may have brought the conversation of our role in the world to the forefront but the insatiable need for politicians to capitalize on tragedy drove a wedge in the face of understanding.
Conspiracy theorists as well as Patriotic Eagles are to blame for the current state of panic and confusion that has ensued in the years following the first attack on American soil in recent memory.
Instead of working together to pass legislation to root out the invisible enemy in the prevention of another attack on American soil, the power frenzy of Red vs. Blue took center stage in a political war that lead to a Witch Hunt for weapons of Mass Destruction and an election based around promises that will never happen.
No matter how much you shake the bag to get everything to blend together, Election “08” simply came down to a mandate on the mistakes of the Bush Administration.
Mandates that came down to radical ideals of pulling out of a region that is a hot bed from messes of our own invention and wiping the slate clean of any accomplishments that were achieved to prevent further tragedy…
Mess’s that revolve around the central parts of how we live our lives through a reliance on foreign oil, the rise in Religious Fundamentalism that came back to bite us when we fanned the flames and didn’t go through the rebuilding process along with the powder kegs of strife between nations that have been in conflict for thousands of years.
It would be hard to find a person in the conversation who would argue against the Iraq War being a mess we should not have been involved with. When we dig deeper into that statement what comes to light is the use of hindsight to project a final argument.
Hindsight that would rather have us pull out of the destruction that was caused to leave the Iraqi people to their own devices much like we left Afghanistan after helping them defeat our Cold War Enemies.
The results are the same as they always would have been and our attention as a nation has been turned to the root of the problem. The problem that bread the men who hijacked the planes that flew into the World trade Center Towers and The Pentagon, killing innocent people who were doing nothing beyond living their lives.
The trendy topic of ending a war that was already on the down swing to “Stick it to Bush” clouded the overall issue of figuring out a way to protect our sovereignty as a nation while also protecting the fundamental rights given to us in the Constitution.
For all the talk of wiping the slate clean of Bush Era policies the constitutionally questionable Patriot Act has been extended by the Obama Administration as well as the continuance of all battle strategies in Iraq and Afghanistan.
With these facts on the table it brings us back to original discussion about the game of perception.
The game that can glow like a bright star to pacify the anger of a nation in pain but can only shine so bright in the face of reality…
The reality of the dangers that still stand before us in the the decisions have to be made about going to war with a country over suspected nuclear capability and threats to nations that are allies of the United States of America.
When we look back at all the events that lead to 9/11 and the subsequent wars in Afghanistan and Iraq we have to revisit history with our eyes wide open.
Open to the mistakes that were made as well as the vision of history repeating itself in new and twisted ways.
Ways that should open up conversation as to the future direction of the country beyond making our decisions based on the man or woman who is currently occupying the oval office or how much we want that them to succeed or fail.
The dangers that exist in places some of us have never heard of are multiplying by the second as the world plunges deeper and deeper into financial turmoil. The places we hear about in our news cycle are also the places that are hit hardest by the realities we will never truly understand as a nation.
This fact and this fact alone should lay the ground work of understanding when it comes to recognizing the turmoil that exists on an international stage and the tough decisions that are only going to work if carefully crafted to protect the American people and the rest of the world.
