Wars with no end

In the history of the world there has been no greater gift to mankind than the gift of freedom.
On every corner of the globe, men and women have fought for this idea against oppressive regimes for the opportunity to practice whatever religion they see fit to practice, the opportunity to form lifelong bonds of love with whomever they choose, the opportunity to live a life free from the hands of government and the opportunity to pursue life, liberty and happiness.
The idea of freedom has always been simple, but time and time again men and women living in free nations have chosen to complicate a simple idea through the creation of wars.
While the idea of war immediately evokes dark images of nation to nation conflict, that is all too familiar in a dangerous world, there is also something to be said about the wars that are being fought in our institutions of education, on our street corners and in our homes.
Wars against invisible monsters that have allowed governments across the world to strip away the rights of citizens for what they call the greater good…
Much like Prohibition, the wars on terror, alcohol, drugs and the things that happen between consenting adults were all waged to create a better and safer society but have ultimately resulted in a watering down of the rights of citizens that have the unique privilege of living in free nations.
Prison systems across the world have become overcrowded money generators for corporations, different sets of standards have been created for the poor and affluent in justice systems across the globe and the rights created to protect the people from systems of government in free nations have been pushed to the backburner in an effort to protect public safety.
To fight unwinnable wars, the people have been asked to give up their rights while the governments of the world take more and more liberties away from us on a daily basis.
Liberties that are excused by the people of the world because they choose to believe that only people undeserving of these rights should be concerned about the things that are happening at their backdoors.
Backdoors that are filled with the stories of broken families, an epidemic of addiction and governments that refuse to face the fact that they have failed the people they took an oath to serve.
In the face of a global economic collapse billions of dollars are still being pumped into a multi decade war that has left the streets of nations decimated with the evidence of causalities, a bolstering of drug cartels and the byproduct of prescription drug addiction that has come to Suburbia.
When leaders of free nations choose to use the word war it never ends well.
Wars always leave casualties and the men and women that claim victory rarely ever feels victorious.
The United States of America learned this fact with the practice of prohibition that only created the opportunity for corruption in law enforcement and government and emboldened organized crime until its inevitable repeal.
The argument for or against invisible wars will always begin and end with the way the people of free nations choose to approach the conversation.
The conversation that has very little to do with the legalization of drugs, fear of a terror attack or what may or may not happen to the practice of a religion if men and women were given the same rights as everyone else in society.
The conversation about invisible wars have everything to with the things we are willing to give up to honor the simple idea of freedom for all people.
