From Left Field: War of Contradictions
July 27th 2011 13:41
For American Citizens who have had the privilege of living in a nation built on the dreams of men and women that came from every corner of the globe to build better lives for themselves and their families; it’s hard to believe there can be so many problems detrimental to the individual freedoms protected in the United States Constitution and Bill of Rights.
Freedoms that are thrown on the back burner in mysterious codes by politicians that claim they are fighting to get America back to the prestigious places of yesteryear and are blatantly left naked and vulnerable by politicians on the other side of the fence with the implementation of radical initiatives that are leading us down an even darker path.
A few short years ago, the idea of protecting businesses and medical professionals from the plague of frivolous lawsuits was all the rage among a select group of elected officials that called themselves conservatives.
An idea fueled by billion dollar corporations looking to protect the interests of an industry that was being called to task for the actions of Tobacco Companies that knowingly filled their products with cancer causing chemicals and addictive substances on the notion of building “customers for life” across the globe and Medical Professionals that failed to live up to the Hippocratic oaths taken to work in the best interests of their clients and corporations that came face to face with the realities of being forced to change their business models to work for the best interests of their consumers health and welfare instead of their stock holders.
What we have in present day America is the end result of a series of failures caused by the men and women elected to represent the interests of their country, district and state.
Interests that have been traded away for the purpose of promoting business at the expense of the people that elect them into office.
The same men and women that adhere to the doctrine of small government have become polluted with the backwards belief that there should be a cap on the amount of money any man, woman or child can receive from decisions made by a jury of their peers, who should have the right to sue when they have been wronged by another individual or corporation and the ability for a corporation to block an employee’s right to sue through hidden clauses in pre employment contracts.
While it is true that modern culture has created a “Do nothing but Give me everything” society that celebrates the amount of money a man or woman has in the bank over the amount of hard work they put in to reach levels of success; there is still something to be said about the slippery slope that comes when fundamental rights are allowed to be taken away.
Fundamental rights that come with the expectation of knowing that if someone or an entity does a man, woman or child wrong a remedy exists to prevent it from happening again and to compensate the individual fairly.
In the same way that groups of men and women on the local, state and federal level oppose any federal legislation that restricts the rights of individuals in the creation of a national health care law it is a contradiction to assume that the federal government or any state government can create a ceiling or restriction on the decisions of any jury in judicial disputes.
To understand the mechanics behind the collapse of the World Economy and the loss of the inalienable rights guaranteed in the United States Constitution and Bill of Rights beyond proclaiming that the wars caused by President George W. Bush and Republican/Democratic power being the only source of blame; we must dig deeper into the misguided relationship between elected representatives, billion dollar corporations, political parties and power groups that are wreaking havoc across the globe.
While the present conversation about cause and effect may rest at the feet of the Republican Party and what may appear to be a series of mistakes that have lead us to the point we are at today…
There is also something to be said about the role played by each and every representative in Congress and the men who served as President of the United States of America who had full knowledge of everything that was going on and the distance of the cliff but chose to stay the course.
The course that was charted by Democrats and Republicans alike with the help of special interests to implement “at any cost” strategies of helping each and every American achieve the dream of home ownership, deregulating a system when all signs pointed to a system run amok and ultimately giving the perpetrators that ran the economy into the ground from their financial industry posts cabinet positions in an administration appointed the task of helping the nation recover.
Decisions in the election booth were once about American citizens taking time to decide which man or woman would be the best captain of the ship but have slowly become a painful process of deciding which side will cause the least amount of damage over the course of a term.
A system that has forgotten the honor that should come with public service.
In this modern age of extreme’s the men and women that choose to honor the Constitution without strings attached are being punished by a system fueled by money and greed.
Greed that is taking away the right of the individual citizen to protect themselves and their family from the entities that have better access to their representatives on Capitol Hill, greed that openly gives corporations more capability to send out media messages and greed that gives corporations the ability to influence elections and reap benefits than the average citizen.
The only way to take the power back from all the things that have gone wrong is to wake up.
A united America is more powerful than any force on the planet but this process can only begin when we create change within ourselves and stop looking for change to come to us from the same cast of characters that continue to destroy an imperfect system.
